"If he went, it would be the first time Joe Steer had seen active service since the famous World War Two battle of El Alamein in Egypt in 1942, the paper said."

"The call-up papers came in an official government envelope and ordered Steer to report to a training camp.

"I'm a bit past my prime," the Sun quoted him as saying. "It's too high-tech today. I'm used to rifles and machine guns, not missiles."

A ministry spokesman told the paper the call-up was due to an administrative error. "

We still use the M-25. That is a derivitave of the M-21, which is itself a derivitive of the M-14.

The M-14 is of course a derivitive of the MIGHTY M-1 Garand.

Marine Force Recon and Seals still utilise the M-14 for Desert operations where a longer Distance Dork Slayer is required as an individual weapon. Also M14s Dont require panty hose like the M16 to keep the sand out. Thanks for the Leggs pantyhouse During DS. America...

“The M-14 is of course a derivitive of the MIGHTY M-1 Garand.“

Even my long time memory is starting to go I can’t remember the year but it was either `74 or `75 I saw an magazine in a gun shop, which showed a M-1 Garand for $94 or $96. I can’t remember which but with $25 more for the gun smith to order it for me and too my surprise it was either never shot or one that had been total rebuild back to standards and placed in government storage. Even the wood was new and the serial number shows it was made in October 1941at the Springfield Armory. The serial number falls between 377,258 and 401,528 the October 1941 run. It now has had a few thousand rounds through it but still looks like new and works great.
While back in `61 to `63 while in high school ROTC and I had an M-1 issued to me but can’t remember that serials number but they were far from new like the one I bought later. They were so use that when we shot then at summer camp you had to work the action by hand.
Now there is another story unlike to days schools we had over a thousand M-1, about a hundred `03s for the drill teams, and around 80 or so BARs in the three high schools where I lived. All were working weapons only with the firing pin removed (not in the `03s) but like I said we did shot then at summer camp ever the BARs.
