Italian police car is Lamborghini

ROME (Reuters) - If you are thinking about speeding on Italian highways this year, think twice. You might find yourself being chased by a Lamborghini.

Italian police took possession on Friday of a sleek, 500 horsepower, two-seater Lamborghini Gallardo, which can hit a top speed of 185 mph.

The sports car, painted in the police's distinctive blue and white colours, comes complete with a flashing blue light on the roof and will initially patrol the Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway -- a road notorious in Italy for wild driving.

The Lamborghini will also be used to transport human organs for emergency operations.

German Police have been driving high-end sports cars and other luxury cars of German manufacture for decades, namely BMW and Porsche. Of course, they have the "highway" system to support such vehicles. To their detriment, however, the majority of their vehicles are VWs.

...the "autobahn" polizei mostly drives BMW 5er.
That means the cars which are painted with "police colours"...
The main problem are the "secret" police cars with cameras and all that stuff... some are Mercedes, some are Opel... you never know

the car they drive depends on what state they come from.
Here in Hessen, where a huge OPEL production plant is located, they´ve got a contract with OPEL... other states with VW, or BMW...

Hessen eh? Never knew you were in the '1st day overrun' zone of the former West Germany.

Living that close to Fulda was a brave thing to do for many decades, lol.

Spent most of my time in Bavaria. A lot of time in Stuttgart (is that still in Bavaria? Not Sure.) where the Porsche plant was located. BMW/VW was the most common make for the coppers. A lot of Porsche, however, in the south there.

Still fun, though. Nothing like cruising the autobahn at 130+ mph and getting passed like you're standing still.

Havn't raced one of those yet, but been keeping an eye out.

Mucho power, but also mucho heavy- and as aerodynamic as a...well, an A-10. ;)

That's the coolest cruizer in the world. I don't see anything outrunning a Gallardo with a radio.....at least nothing without an afterburner.

If that 911 is a turbo it could give the Gallardo all it can handle.

That looks like a mid-late 90s model, which had a top speed of over 190mph, and 0-62mph(0-100kph) acceleration in well under 4 seconds.

it´s not a turbo... turbos have got bigger "air intakes" and the huge rear spoiler.
you are right its a 911-993, built 93-99
272 or 285 hp...
0-100 km/h 5,4/6,4s (depends on TIPTRONIC or not...)
Top Speed 270-275 km/h (167-170mph)

The whale tail hasn't been on a 911 since the 80s i think.

That is a beatiful 993 turbo. :)

I was thinking of the more prominent whale tails of the late 70s, early 80s cars. I'm sure you know the one i'm talking about.

Forgot about the 'baby' whale, lol.

I stand most humbly corrected sir. ;P

The new 911s have that auto-deploy tail. I guess it's cool, but it doesn't look as good.

I would'nt complain if the spoiler were made of plywood and b 1/2 on that car. I could learn to live with it.

As soon as I get $80,000 to spare, that's what I'm buying. I've had a crush on the Viper for about 6 years already. Of course with the classic blue/white stripes paint job.

The SRT-10 is a truck BR.

A very large, very, very angry truck.
