I am seriously going to try to go, if my company will grant me a leave of abscense. there are plenty of ways to be involved other than actually deploying to the coast. We just unloaded almost $1800.00 in food and hygene supplies headed for the gulf coast, all the funds were generated through a boot drive held yesterday.

I just looked at that too and I thinking that I aught to apply, the local Red cross is looking for volunteers for the area. I am an EMT and I don't mind living in rough conditions for extended periods of time. I'd love to go help, but I just started this semster and I'd hate to be get behind, but then again I've only been through the first week and it's not like I'd be throwing away half a semster. I'll have to think about it.

Shaw has been tasked for about 70 CE troops and are asking for another 100 from maintenance group to go down there. I wish I could volunteer to go but my feet are still healing from the surgery just two weeks ago.
Also Charleston AFB has been tasked to use their C-17's to help out.

well we're manning security at one of the Dallas shelters. almost 100% of the refugee's are black. pretty tight conditions 24 total shower heads for 2500 +/- people. maybe 72 total toilettes... at least 2 cholera cases and a case of typhoid diagnosed in my shelter alone... and things are going to get worse the longer they have to be here...

got an accurate count last night 6200 people in shelter... FEMA is on site today, if we're going to have problems with these people it will come in the next 3-7 days.

Dont get me wrong folks,I'm not trying to start a fight or anything.
I've been watching the news and the finger pointing ETC.....
over everything,Who's at fault,water.food,money etc....
But when I see the REV Jesse Jackson ( being from Illinois )we only see him when he wants "MONEY"<img src=newicons/Whatever_anim.gif border=0 align=middle>
but he was talking to Rita Cosby about the word "Refugee's" and saying the normal "<img src=newicons/pain10.gif border=0 align=middle> about calling the folks they took out.
He said their not Refugee's,but Evacuee's.

Ok the wife and I talked about it "whats the big deal"?

I got the Dictionary out here's what is says, American Heritage

Refugee- one who flees in search of refuge as from war or political oppression

Evacuee- A person evacuated from a dangerous or threatened area

So now I know why all the networks are calling them Evacuees now,because it probably is the right word,plus no one needs the "AIR" OF THIS BEING AN ANYWAY A RACE ISSUE".

Its just a shame everything comes down to a "RACE ISSUE",but doesnt look at all the good work and folks risking their lives to save people.

Just my opinion.

I am a god damn refugee. This was a total fuck up. I saw too much preventable death. The mayor needs to answer why the school buses were allowed to sink, why no provisions for hygene were made. I watched babies die this is not acceptable in america.
