What is the accepted age band for 'Middle Age'?

We seem to be able to define 'child' as 12 or less.

'Teenager' as 13 to 18-21

'OAP' as 65+

So what is middle aged?

Seeing how the average age for a male living in the UK is 78, middle age must surely start at 39 and perhaps extend to 50.

Help required as this 'debate' has been rumbling on here for a while and I need to be able to prove the wife wrong...

Well, before we can prove her wrong, we need to know the (your) parameters that you are proposing. I'm a proponent of the "you're as old as you feel" camp. To that end, most days, I feel about 1/2 my chronologic age, and, according to my wife, I frequently act significantly less!

In mine country we say to people from 30 till 40 "older-younger" In Dutch are the words better and everybody understand it. I think middle age is around 50 till 60. After than are you "younger-older". I know the words are strange.

holy crap! the average age for a Brit is 78?!?!?
Middle age starts at exactly 10 years older than whatever my present age is at any particular moment.
You are as old as you feel until you have to run after or away from something

Dont know what it is, but I do know what old is.

Old makes noise like a goose out of breath, thinks like a thug, has glasses like coke bottles while using a sniper scope like mr. magoo.

Now THAT sounds like my house. I'm frequently asked what I want to be when I grow up.

Flip the ass end up and check the "Born on Date"

atleast that works on beer.

I fly ww2 Sims with a Real ww2 Ace (Col. Monroe) Dude is close to 90.

He talks still like he was playing grabass on the turf flightline..

.. I say its all in the mind.

People that are having a mid age crisis are folks to uncomfortable with evolving, they hit adult hood and coast... then they realise they messed their life up.

That to me is middle age or mid life crisis.

People that spend the rest of their life trying to play catch up.

You know you're middle aged when you can't tell the age of anybody below 21 and cops look younger than you do.

This all came about because I nearly started a fight at a gas station. I was waiting in the queue and these youths in front were buying cigarrets.

They looked about 12 (min age is 16) so I insisted they showed ID. None of my business I know, but I'm a pushy s**t sometimes.

They were all 17 or 18 - Man did I feel stupid.

It's also funny how by the time I cleared the queue, they were walking away and about 50 mtrs up the road. I heard a shout implying I was into one handed gratification.

Funny how when I drove up and got out to ask them to repeat it, they suddenyl came over all quite LOL...

I have to agree with the majority here and say you're only as old as you feel. My plan is to take my age when I die, divide by 2 and then I'll know when I was middle aged. Lucky for me that I never grew up and my wife will verify that. At 50+ almost everyone I meet thinks my age is at least 10 years less than it is. You can't stop growing older but you never have to grow up.

Thats why my wife is 91/2 yrs older then me, everyone thinks she's younger then me so when I tell people how old I'am they say "You cant be that old" so by doing the math I'm around 29
But Hell,somedays I feel like I'm 85,other days 75 so like I said
Your only as old as your Wife says you act!
