Trying to find some 7mm stainless rod, just a foot or so long, but most places have a large minimum order and onlinemetals.com ( a great place btw ) doesnt do metric, any advice or ideas? A 45 has a muzzle. A 9mm has a bullet vent. |

Boomer, Go to a custom auto shop were they do engine,re-build or bike shop that does custom work. They probably have some laying around, and if its to big they'll probably be able to mill it to your spec or go to a machine shop. You know ,you could probably go to a place that sells "Fasteners" bolts.screws etc... they probably have Bolts close to that size and length and then have it machined down. I'll ask around here if anyone has some in their shop,Hell these farmers have crap they dont even know where it came from. Goose LIVE FREE OR DIE |

http://www.mcmaster.com/ Or check the yellow pages... A local steel company should provide a better price and cut to the length you needs it. What grade of stainless are you looking for? 303, 316...etc "The greatest pleasure is to vanquish your enemies, to chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth, to see their near and dear bathed in tears, to ride their horses and sleep on the white bellies of their wives and daughters." -Genghis Khan |

The grade dont matter much as long as I can polish it then grind a good sized notch in it, I'm trying to make a long push button about 1 1/2" long. Would like it to be a foot or so in case I need to make some "do-overs" lol. If I had a lathe it'd take me about 20 seconds to spin it out lol That's a great site Mudd, I'll have to wait till Monday to hear back from them. A 45 has a muzzle. A 9mm has a bullet vent. |

I work in a machine shop. Unfortunately our machines do batches of thousands. Department I'm working in right now is making some of the .50 steel core they're using over there. Ignorance may be bliss, but it sure ain't fun! |

no bluprints it's just a DIY job, all I need is a cylinder a few minits with a stone and an hour or less with the Dremel. It's an extended mag release for my XD, but aftermarket is like $30 and I dont think that one is quite long enough, and it IS just a rod with a notch ground out of it. A 45 has a muzzle. A 9mm has a bullet vent. |

This why I was wanting the steel, someone over at FAL files came through and sent me some samples of 7mm rod. It's the mag release for my XD-9. The left side simulates the muzzle of a gattling gun ( WAS gonna go for a GAU-8 but doing the math on getting 7 barrels equally spaced spazzed me out ). I'll have to clean it up a bit sooner or later cause the engraving bit in the Dremel slipped almost every time I went to make a mark. It looks better in person cause it's kind of "glared out" in the pic. A 45 has a muzzle.
