I know Mudd, Fender and a few others here play...I am a novice who is just picking it up, but after a few lessons I am hooked. What do you guys recommend for a guitar and amp for a begginner such as myself?

While we are on the subject....Jimmy Hendrix, then Eddie Van Halen are tops in my book how do you guys rate the best of all time?

A fender....or Ibanez, decent quality will get ya bye till your ears start becoming picky...
...15 WattAmp.... (peavey-rage)
.......Tablature of your favorite band....gets you hooked..

...in a couple years..start learning theory...

The idea is to be fun. I keep a guitar at my office. It has always been a good companion. good stress reliever.

get a yamaha acoustic, their cheap and fun, and doesnt annoy anyone on the otherside of the wallpaper...

Since I was 9...

Classical and Spanish, Flamenco etc Growing up, started getting into blues and jazz college years, after that it has been pure Rock.

Warthog 30 and Type 7 Play as well. Havnt seen type 7 around for a while, but I know W30 is pretty heavily in Christian and blues stuff.

Guitar has kept me out of wasting too much of my time with Women and booze.

Bookmarked it Glenn...Thanks again. If your ever in my area come up and jam with me, sure I could pick up a few things from you. Borrowing a friends loaner right now, love this stuff, not sure why I never discovered it earlier. Probably had something to do with to much booze, and a physchotic ex...<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

I learned on a $150 Yamaha acoustic...still sounds great. Eventually, if you want the EVH sounds, I'd recommend an MXR Phase 90 pedal. Lots of good solid state amps out there too. Some of the new Vox amps come to mind.

My main electric for years was a Mexican strat...can't beat it for the money...under $250. My gear now is a bit more high end, but you don't have to spend a lot to get good stuff these days.

I jam (when I'm home from the army and can be bothered) on an Ibanez EX140 with an Ibanez 10 Watt amp (angry neighbors) and on my Brownsville NY Acoustic/Electric guitar. Both beauties, and both cheap.
