TOKYO (AP) - Leadoff hitter Chen Yung-Chi hit a grand slam in the fourth inning Sunday to lead Taiwan to a 12-3 win over China in the World Baseball Classic.

Chen's homer gave Taiwan a 5-0 lead at Tokyo Dome en route to its first win of the tournament. Taiwan improved to 1-2 while China finished 0-3 in Group A.

"I knew it was gone the second I hit it," Chen said. "It was great to take a little pressure off and get some breathing room."

Chen, a minor league prospect for the Seattle Mariners, was 4-for-6 with four runs scored and five RBIs. He had three doubles to go along with his grand slam.

China gave up a total of 40 runs while scoring six over three games and finished last in Group A.

"I think our players were a little nervous today," China manager Jim Lefebvre said. "But dealing with pressure is part of being a professional."

Lefebvre, hired to get China's baseball team prepared for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, said his players gained a lot from playing teams such as Japan and South Korea.

"This was the highest level of baseball these guys have ever been exposed to," Lefebvre said. "You only improve by playing against better teams and this was a great experience for our players."

Starter Pan Wei-Lun earned the win for Taiwan after giving up two hits and striking out four in four scoreless innings.

Japan and South Korea, set to play later Sunday in the final Group A game, already qualified for the second round of the 16-nation tournament and will play the top two teams from Group B, which includes the United States, Mexico, Canada and South Africa.
