Finding a decent job in the private sector is difficult. I currently have a mediocre one, but finding something that pay much better either requires experience, or to wait for training. I've been considering going reserves, since that would give me the training.

While I know what I'd want to do, I'm sure there's half a dozen career fields that can give it to me, and so I need to talk with someone about it. Thing is, I'm not sure the local recruiter office will be best. I've thought about heading over to Scott, talking to the in-service recruiter there, but I'm not sure how productive that will be.

Anyone got some advice?

Ignorance may be bliss, but it sure ain't fun!

Where's the nearest reserve outfit to you? They all have recruiters assigned to the units.

I'm with Mark on this one. Talk to the unit you want to get in with first. They can then talk to the recruter on your behalf, and get you the position you want.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I know some want you to move, but you got to go where the money is,besides its something your probably use to.
Most will pay to move you and find you a place to live.

Hell it cant hurt you might be surprised.

Machinist stuff might be interesting to continue. I was looking more for something that would go towards or supplement an electrical engineering degree though. I was prompted the first time to try for something more electroniccy than 2W1, and it wasn't the best I could have done. I'm not really looking at repeating that mistake.

I'll see if I can get ahold of the recruiter out at Scott. Maybe Whiteman, though if I decide on Uni of Wyoming, I'll want to look for something out there, too. I don't mind moving, I just want a decent job. Going west sounds good too.

No only legal Pharmacuticals you probably have used them in the EMS trade and I know that their being used by those Combat Medics in the field.
I watched a special the other night showing the workings of a
"Medical Evac Units" and there on a hook was some of the stuff I could of helped made.
With the shelf life of 7 yrs before they re-test it there's a good chance I was on that fill, either setting it up,filling it,pastureizing it,even taking it down to the "Inspection Area".
Doesnt matter seeing them use it to help save a life made all those"LONG NITES and HEADACHES" with the paperwork, cleaning, machines not working, fighting about materials "fighting with new Machine replacements so they would work ,Shows that it wasnt a waste of time.
I know the folks who worked making that product and they were driven "TO MAKE IT THE BEST"<img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

Something that might help is a good listing of the code descriptions. While I've looked around, I've not really been able to find much that's terribly useful. While I've been looking for something like Gold Flag or whatever they call it now(you take them the part, they'll rip open the circuit board to fix it)the closest I've been able to find is a spec job. I might end up talking to someone besides a recruiter.

Yeah Goose you made drugs for a living bro, but mixing them in your bath tub doesnt count. I keep telling you, if you have to sell out of your cellar the job doesnt count as honest. <img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle>

I hear the FEDS knocking now! Hey the cellar didnt pay $20+ an hour with benefits.
I guess the going thing is now "Security Clearances" if you got one make sure you tell them that on certain jobs.
Plus it shows Employers that your not a "Looser" oh well the look of not being one.<img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle>
Hey my Chemical Warfare Training helped out alot,
I worked in a "HOT PLACE,HIGH HUMIDITY,WEARING A CLASS 100 SUIT,MASK,GOGGLES,GLOVES,BOOTS and had to work with real small parts Just like the service.

But use those links and you'll be surprised at the work anfd how just being a "CrewChief" gives you a door to SO DAMN MANY JOBS!
I was lucky, that I only needed my HS EDUMACTION and 214 to get a good job.But alot of places if you have the military training its just as good.
Aircraft Maintance can also get you into "CO-GEN" power plants so dont over look that one we had 2 guys from our flight go to work doing that for an Oil company. SPUD works on an Oil Rig as Maintance,
So you'd be surprised, unless you want to work in a office, that probably aint going to happen.

Several locals that worked at the local state prison quit their jobs to go to Iraq and be correctional officers over there. One found out the hard way "no security clearence equals no job."

I am looking into ways to turn mine into a decent paying job.

Fender,

You would be surprised on what you can go into with your service, Sign up for of of those probably Vetjobs and watch what happens.
You'll get the regular,"Crappy Jobs" (UPS) wanted me but I didnt want them.
The one job I should of looked into was "The MAYTAG" repair job.
They LOVE VETS, because they can handle stuff on their own and they think. They sent you to school for a few weeks you learned how to fix all their appliances, then you were given an area, truck etc... that you covered.
Paid pretty good too if they still have it. Benefits everything and your your own boss.
So dont kid yourself you can make GOOD MONEY.

Goose.
