After many hours of diplomatic wrangling behind closed doors at the UN headquarters in New York, france has finally agreed to UN demands to reduce the number of peace keepers it was planning to send to southern Lebanon from 2,000 to 200.

It is not currently clear if france will agree to the additional request that the 200 troops are selected from the elite French Catering Corps, who as one un-named UN official pointed out “might actually be able to contribute” to the effort.

In a separate development, Israel has refused to confirm that it has requested several hundred french covert operations troops are merged with the Israeli troops to assist in the withdrawl from the disputed southern region of Lebanon.

However a leaked Israeli army memorandum clearly states “france’s ability to withdraw from the theatre of operations is unsurpassed by any other countries fighting force”

It goes on to say, “We Israelis could learn a lot from the french. We are not used to running away, they are”
