Historical Fact: Bombing of marine barracks, October 23, 1983
Simultaneous suicide truck-bomb attacks were made on American and French compounds in Beirut, Lebanon. A 12,000-pound bomb destroyed the U.S. compound, killing 242 Americans, while 58 French troops were killed when a 400-pound device destroyed a French base. Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility.


I was stationed at RAF Bentwaters when this happened.

I was at Yokota AB Japan and they RAMMED the GATE with a Nissan car, crashing into the guard shack,busting the gate and hurting the JN guard.
I guess it was the "RED BIRGADE'S" way of showing its support for the Bombings.
We were still winding down from the "007 Shoot down" Recovery missions.

It was a Bad Fall that year.

I was at Hahn AB Germany and remember it well. Got recalled and went on alert for days. Big difference between a "play" alert and the real thing.
