Post subject:  Computer question

I have a question??? Anyone know a good place on the net to buy Memory cards Cheap????

The other question, how would you install a second hard drive in your computer? I have the space and plug in for a SATA type .

I just got Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 and it works \"Great\" but it takes up
1.3 G of space.
My hard drive is 120G and I have 1G in memory 1 single channel and want to finally make it a DDR 2 and put another 1G in.

I upgraded one for the girls to 2G ,i finally sent that one to them, so I'm back to my oringal system to upgrade.

So what would be better, going to just 1 bigger hard drive? or installing a sencond one to run the Dragon? The chips I have know are 2 512mb so I'd nned 2 512MB DDR PC3200400Mhz Samsung 184 pin DIMM chips to get 2G
or
4 1G DDR PC3200 400Mhz 184pin DIMM to boost it to 4G of memory

I'm not going to screw around with Vista, I'm going to find me a \"Laptop\" used or re-conditioned to screw around with that has XP2.

newegg.com has pretty good prices. Vista is not meeting with huge acceptance and some vendors are holding back on installing it on every new system.

Goose, the easiest way to add a 2nd hard drive is to buy an external hard drive, just plug and play.

Okay, I thought we discussed before about having a external hard drive and about the problems associated with the external hard drive.
I really don't have the room for an external hard drive, so I have the space inside the tower I figure I would just put a new hard drive in with the other one.
Dragon speak naturally keeps on want to reload so I think it's because there's not enough space, or the antivirus is interfering with it.

Boomer, I went to that website you gave, and they did not have my size memory chip. I guess I'll have to spend $40-$50 a piece for each chip. I bought memory before from a store I just thought I can get cheaper.
I wish they had two because I need 2 to fill in the other room . That way I can run dual channel with two gigs of memory.
So I don't know yet what word do.
When I bought the program I didn't realize that it would take 1.3 gig of hard drives to run it.

But so far, it's working okay because right now I am using it to dictate this.

Well, I bought my 2nd hard drive from Sam's Club and have had no trouble with it. I can't remember the brand though. I would suggest finding out what type you need(which it sounds like you know) and shopping around a little online to find it the cheapest. Sometimes TigerDirect.com has decent deals. Also if you find a brand you want, check Epinions for any customer reviews.

I have an 80G that came with the computer, and bought a 160G to supplement, and plugged it in, formatted and it has never given me a problem. What I do is run all my programs off C drive, and use my secondary 160G drive to store big stuff(I do a lot of graphics/video work). I would definitely recomend a second internal since you are all set-up for it!!

One slight word of caution, if you are upgrading your RAM, keep in mind you may lose the ability to run a program or 2. I upgraded from 512M RAM to 2G and my best graphics program would not run, because I had TOO MUCH RAM!! Hard to believe, but it can happen.

....so now that you are totally cornfused...! :?

Hogdog, I'm probably going that way because a external drive costs more than a internal, plus If I get the same type of drive,it tells you in the motherboard book the computer will format it like it does new memory.

So I'm hoping it'll be easy (LOLOLOLOL) besides my Uncle is the one who built it in the shop he was working at. I'm just going to have him install it all.

I wasn't thinking because he can get the Damn stuff Whole Sale. :? I'm slipping.

We'll see, You guys are always a great help

Thanks

I got a great price on those Chips , half what I paid earlier this year.
$59.98 before now there $29.98 for a 512MB PC3200 400 CL3 DIMM.

I figured out though when they say \"Use the same size chip, power etc.. they mean \"Manufacturer Too\" :? .
The other 2 were made by \"Twin Mos\" and these were actual Samsung and I forgot the way the board was set up both channels had 2 colors so I had to switch 2 cards this morning and \"Bingo\" Dual Channel\" works.

Now to put in the internal hardrive and off I'll go.!

Thanks Guys

Goose, all you need to do is open the case, install the hard drive in an open bay, connect the power from your PSU, and attach a SATA cable from your HD to an open SATA channel on your motherboard. It shouldn't take but 5 minutes. Once you reboot the computer your OS will see the new drive, give it a name, and you're off and running.

Cheers...
