So my vacation is booked for the end of October. Now that i received the confirmation i find out that its on Air Tran airways from Philadelphia to Orlando. The few times that I've flown was only by US air. I was told by a friend that Air Tran was infamous for canceling flights if they were not full. Does anyone have any experience with them. I'm curious if this rumor was true or if i should be worried? |

I've never heard that, but a quick google search should turn up something if it's true. Have fun in Disney! |

Racegal, AirTran is no worse (or better) than US Scareways. Do keep in mind that AirTran was formerly known as Value Jet though their safety record has improved 100 fold in the last couple of years. OC |

Racegal, It's a \"Flip of the Coin\" , weather, breakdowns, traffic , crew anything can cause a cancellation . So its a \"Toss-up\" Goose |

I worked for an airline for 4 years (MX) and have never heard of anyone cancelling because they weren't full. If that were the case then there would be no flights going anywhere at any time! Flights are scheduled at certain airports months in advance, and if they have a few passengers or none, they're still going to do their hop to get to the next hub. I've never seen an empty airplane, and I've seen a 100% full flight maybe once. Most are about half to 2/3rds full. I wouldn't sweat it. |

The last full airplane I saw was our MD-11 flight to the Deid. ![]() You are right though. The last commercial flight I took was after my trip to the sand last year...and I guess it was pretty full. Before that it had been about 3-4 years since my last flight anywhere...when I worked for an airline and could fly for free. ![]() |

What coach said. the flights from STL to D.C. are packed to the gills. About 4-5 years ago I had an early a.m. flight cancelled because there were only 15-20 of us. The next flight was 45 minutes later and for some reason was over booked. I went from a row to myself to sardined between two, uh, \"full-seaters\" and stereo engines in the last row. |
