Folks, if you ever get the chance to participate in the Extreme Makeover project I highly recommend it. I just got done with their latest project and had a blast. Since I was one of the few that could actually read a blueprint and had a fair amount of framing experience they put me in charge of a crew consisting of four high school students with no experience. What they lacked in talent they more than made up for with heart and dedication. They ended up calling me the crazy old man (thanks..I think), I called them my pups. It worked well, there was no way I was going to let them beat me at anything which made for some interesting situations. Of course, I'm paying for it now..even my hair hurts. I've often wondered how the show manages to complete a house in six days. It's semi-controlled chaos but the cooridinator they had on this project was an amazing individual who seemed to be everywhere at once. Lot of fun and a worthwhile experience. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. OC |

Wow that sounds great. That show is pretty amazing how they can get things done so quickly. Plus you go away with an experience that will last a life time. |

It was on the local news (all networks) so I just figured I'd pop in and see what I could do. It's only a half hour from my house. Had to sign an injury waiver and all that crap but that was the only paperwork involved. They want us all back tonight for the presentation but I'm going to pass. The weather absolutely sucks, just as it has been all week. Either freezing ass cold (8 F one morning) or pouring rain like now. The way they get it done so fast is production line. As we finished raising and squaring an outside wall there was a crew right behind putting up house wrap. Behind them was another crew doing windows/doors and right behind them was yet another crew doing the siding though in this case it was faux stone. That's a bit of a simplification but you get the idea. OC |

Theres an article on yahoo right now of extreme makeover recipients getting foreclosed. I've also heard these houses tend to be heavily burglarized after appearing on these shows. Reality is a real mofo. :-/ |
