So i get a call and several emails from progressive insurance saying that i (or at least my car) was involved in a hit and run on a parked car in south philadelphia on march 29th at 3:50pm. They tracked me down by my license plate number.

So here in lies the problem, at the date and time of this accident i was at work and so was my car. I worked from 11:45 am to 8:25pm that day. I spoke to my insurance and they took pictures of my car showing that there was no damage and i have a signed paper from my boss showing my time sheet, but i'm at a loss at this point. I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions this whole situation is making me sick.

If they tracked you down by license plate then they should have a description of the car involved with your plate?

I had a similar thing happen while I was in the USAF in California in the late 80s. I went to renew my plates and the DMV said they couldn't because I had an outstanding parking ticket. I researched the ticket and it happened in Hollywood (I was nowhere near Hollywood at that time), and it was my plate, but the car description didn't match mine. I mailed a copy of my registration with my car make and model to the Hollywood police and they dropped the charges. No apologies or anything...just a case dismissed.

With the proof you already have you should be okay, but I'd ask about the make of the car involved if they have it.

Probably need to talk to the South Philly PD too. If there's an accident they may have a ticket or worse that'll need to be cleared up too.

You might also ask by what means they have the plate number. If it was from an \"eye witness\" there's a good chance that they mis-read the plate envolved. If from a traffic camera, then they can get a good look at make and model for the match that Weasel mentioned.

Best of luck with this, and keep us advised how it goes. Remember, if they don't immedeately back off, get a lawyer fast, and as our motto reads, \"Go ugly early!\" Some cops will push for a conviction even if they know they have the wrong person. Don't let them push you around.

Yeah they said someone wrote down the plate but it wasn't me driving. So 1st of all how do they know who i am, 2nd of all how do you just believe someone who copied down a plate number.

People suck lol!

So i got it all clear, police report doesn't have my name, license plate number or make and model of car...they screw up big time and just harassed me.

They sure creeped me out over this...

Seems to me if the insurance companies are involved that they already believe you did do it.

Eye witnesses are the worst. They are rarely correct. I can't believe they are still pursuing this thing even though you've shown evedence that there is no damage to your car, and where you were at the time of the accident.

Best of luck RG.

My insurance company recorded me saying there was no damage to my vehicle and i wasn't there and they are going to deny the claim so we shall see this time....
