Post subject:  VFR ground school
I mentioned in my intro that I am an A&P at a local ground school in Plymouth, MA. Well this particular flight school offers VFR ground school free of charge as a way to draw people in. Well I decided I might as well try to learn a thing or two about flying and attended my first class last night. It was merely an introduction, but I am definitely looking forward to the next twelve Tuesdays. One of the things we did on our first night was watch the short documentary one six right. It was a great film to introduce someone to general aviation but i recommend it to anyone.

Like my netflix queue isn't already 2/3 documentaries. I'll check this out.
What does VFR ground school teach you? What can you do with it after finishing? I'm asking this from a complete knowing nothing about flying or its' rules standpoint.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that is all the ground training you need prior to flying with an instructor to peruse a PPL.

Yeah, the ground school is actually what you need before you take your check ride before you solo. I got to within about 40 hours of my Lic, back in the mid 80's when we still had an Aero Club out here at Buckley AFB, but it got too expensive and I had to drop it. That's when I got into scuba diving, like that's so cheap. :roll:

You don't "have" to go to any ground school to get your private pilot license butttt it will be hard for you to get the sign off from an instructor to take your written exam without it.

I actually skipped last night because it was going to be an intro to the airplane. Little too basic for me since I probably just inspected the damn thing lol.

No shit, I got that pain and added to it my wife got a teaching job in west Texas. I can either dive in a "lake" shallower than my bathtub or a 100' missile silo, or spend lots of money to go someplace with water.

Now to be fair the silo might be fun for one dive, but there isn't a whole lot of "place to go"
