DONT KNOW IF YOU SEEN IT OR NOT He was getting old and paunchy and his hair was falling fast,And he sat around the Legion, telling stories of the past Of a war that he once fought in and the deeds that he had done.In his exploits with his buddies:they were hero's everyone. And'tho sometimes to his neighbors his tales became a joke. All his buddies listened quietly for they knew whereof he spoke. But we'll hear his tales no longer, for ol'Bob passed away. And the world's a little poorer for a Solider died today. He wont be mourned by many, just his children and his wife. For he lived an ordinary, very quiet sort of life. He held a job and rasied a family, going quietly on his way.And the world won't note his passing 'tho a Solider died today. When politicians leave this earth their bodies lie in state while thousands note their passing, and proclaim that they were great. Papers tell of their life stories from the time that they were young. But the passing of a Soldier goes unnoticed, and unsung. Is the greastest contribution to the welfare of our land. Some jerk who breaks his promises and cons his fellow man. Or the ordinary fellow who in times of war and strife,Goes off to serve his country and offers up his life? The politician's stipend and the style in which he lives. Are often disproportionate to the service that he gives. While the ordinary Soldier, who offered up his all,Is paid off with a medal and perhaps a pension small. It's so easy to forget them, for it many times is so.That our Bobs and Jims and Johnnys went to battle, not for show. It is not the politions with their compromise and ploys Who won freedom that our country now enjoys. Should you find yourself in danger with your enemies at hand,Would you really want some cop-out,with his ever waffling stand? Or would you want a Soldier-his home, his country, his kin;Just a common Soldier who would fight until the end? He was just a common Soldier and his ranks are growing thin. But his presence should remind us we may need his like again. For when countries are in conflict,we find the Soldiers part is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start. If we cannot do him honor while he's here to hear the praise. Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days. Perhaps just a simple headline in the paper might say. "OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURING,A SOLDIER DIED TODAY". (TAKEN OUT OF LOCAL VFW NEWS LETTER) PRESS TO TEST Edited by - sgtgoose1 on Jan 29 2003 5:29 PM |

AFTER THE VICE COMMANDER SENT IT TO ME,I HAD TO PASS IT ALONG. I WAS READING ABOUT "STORMING NORMANS" THOUGHTS ON THE UP COMMING WAR AND NOW I KNOW WHY THERE PISSED AT HIM IN THE DOD. OH WELL,HE EARNED HIS RIGHT TO SAY IT ,AND I AGREE THAT RUMMSFIELD NEEDS TO STAY IN THE BACK AND LET THE GENERALS HANDLE IT. IT FITS RIGHT IN. PRESS TO TEST |

Very Kipling... What did Schwarzkopf have to say regarding the situation? A sucking chest wound is life's way of telling you to slow down... |

I DONT HAVE AN AUTHOR 30MM, IT DIDNT HAVE IN IN THE ARTICLE. GEN SCHWARZKOPF,THINKS THAT THE US SHOULD LET THE UN INSPECTION GO ON,AND THAT THIS" HURRY TO FIGHT A WAR" IS DANGEROUS. HE TALKED ABOUT RUMMSFIELD BEING A CAMERA HOG BASICALLY,AND ALWAYS HAS TO HAVE THE SPOTLIGHT ON HIM. HE DOESNT LET THE JOINT CHIEFS DO NOTHING BUT STAND THERE WHILE HE CARRIES ON. PEOPLE IN THE WHITE HOUSE WANT HIM TO SHUT UP BUT,HE AINT GOING TOO UNTIL HE SEE'S PROOF . PRESS TO TEST |

OK, just wondered. There's a WWII vet in our local VFW who writes a poem for every Memorial/Veteran's Day ceremony, and it sounds alot like his style. Thanks for the poem, though.<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle> King George II on Gen. James Wolfe: "Mad, is he? Then I wish he'd bite more of my other generals!" |

Imagine Schwarzkopf getting pee'd at a guy for being a camera hog. LOL, a little hypocritical maybe? I think he's pissed because he's the nit wit that let the Iraqi's fly their gunships to wipe out the rebellion after the war. Whoops, right Norman? Not that i'm a Rumsfeld fan, but let's face it, this is a little politicly motivated. Besides that, i still love the Bear. Trample the wounded- hurdle the dead. |
