If you remember I received orders to Korea last year, which I did not want, and I’m expecting them again next month. If I wait until I get the orders and then chose to retire, instead of taking them, I would be retired within a few months but, if I put my paperwork in now I can project out one year… that’s what I’ve done.

I will be retiring 1 Feb 04 but will have my retirement ceremony on or about 1 Nov of this year and be on terminal leave for the remainder of the time. I hate to leave this job because I’ve really enjoyed it but I guess it’s time to move on.

This is not about what’s going on in the world today but about what’s best for my family. I will have pulled 22 ½ years and served in one war and supported numerous small conflicts so I feel I have served my country. I hope to get some type of job with the A-10 either working them here at depot or in the A-10 SPO but I will not know for a while.

Sending my paperwork in was as hard as signing the enlistment papers over 20 years ago… change is scary thing but I know it will all workout in the end.

Well done, good and faithful servant! Have a suspicion you'll land on your feet, Dice. Most of all, thank-you for your service, dedication and sacrifices.<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> (Also avoids conflict-of-interest for the book, too!)<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Dice
Congrats on opting to retire!!! I know the feeling. I purposely did not try to make MSgt to stay out of Korea and instead retired. Believe me, the civilian world is quite different. I did luck out and get hired by Raytheon, which I must admit it's just like being back in teh 70th. Jim Miles is my supervisor and we have quite a number of 70th folks with us. I wish you the best of luck with what ever you chose to do, but, dont do as I have done. DO NOT enlist in the Air Force Reserve!!! That was and still is a tragedy for me!!! It has been one hassle afetr another.
Once agaion GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Ha more Phantom bites for sure but that's because my girl the Warthog was built for us maintainers! <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

I loved my time on the F-4 (and all the other aircraft) but the mission of the Hog, and being able to support it, is by far what makes me the proudest... CAS and CSAR... what could be better!

DICE,
WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS IN A COUPLE OF CONVERSATIONS,
YOU HAVE DONE MORE THAN YOUR TIME,YOU HAVE DEDICATED MORE OF YOUR TOTAL LIFE SERVING YOUR COUNTRY,TOO WHICH "THANK-YOU" ISNT ENOUGH,OR THE RETIERMENT PAY THAT THEY'LL GIVE YOU.
BUT YOU NEVER DID IT FOR A "THANK-YOU" OR THE PAY,NOT FOR THE HEADACHES OR THE PAIN,THE LONG HOURS AND MONTHS AWAY
BUT DEEP DOWN YOU CAN LOOK AT YOUR GIRLS AND SAY TO YOURSELF

YOU DID IT BECAUSE THATS WHAT YOU FELT FROM YOUR HEART AND NOW YOUR HEART IS SAYING "OK,TIME TO MOVE ON"

YOUR GIRLS COME FIRST,SO TIME TO ENJOY ,BUT DONT EVER THINK THAT ANYONE OF YOUR FRIENDS IN ANYWAY THINK ITS BECAUSE OF WHATS GOING ON IN THE WORLD.

YOU GOT ONE HELL'VA RECORD MAN!
YOU DID YOUR TIME,TIME TO UN-WIND!!!!!
