And just to let you guys know, my order of choice was T-38s, helos, T-44s, T-1s. I know some of you old guys (see my clever wording? Now none of you will give me grief about helos because that makes you an "old guy"<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>) you old guys will groan and moan about selecting helos, but I really like the mission. I think it suites me. And really, I'll be happy with anything but a T-1. And then I will learn to be happy.

So, thus sets the stage. Expect a drunken posting from me later this evening... <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

T-1s.

I'm disappointed, but recovering quickly. There are a lot of good things about it for me, and I've always been the type to enjoy where I am in life. Thanks for all your support and encouragement! I'll always love the A-10, but now I'll have to really start focusing on what I am going to fly after graduation. <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Guess ya get what the air force needs you for.
So, does that mean you'll be a possible bomber pilot?

But hey, you'll be flying. That's what most people only dream of.

T1s are still not too shabby. If you want a more tactical role there is still a way into C130s. I have a friend up there who got T1s and to not get into the heavy world he took a tweet faip. He has a transport follow on but there are 2 ways faips can get out of a follow on - B2s and U2s. He is trying for the latter and it looks good right now (except for some medical issues) <img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

The T1 is a neat airplane to fly and a cross country MACHINE. Get ready for some studying though...systems galore....

Tough call, but good attitude, Poke.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Let's take luke's observation one step further...AC-130's? Some serious firepower there, too!

Peace through Superior Firepower

Poke,
Sorry to hear that you didn't get what you want. It sounds like you have a great attitude about it though! Remember that our careers don't always work out as planned, but usually there are many blessings in disguise. If my career had worked out as I had planned as a young Lt, I would never have met my wife, probably not gotten a fighter, and certainly would not have gotten to experience a lot of neat places. Great attitude on your part. You'll go a long way if you keep it. "If God gives you lemons, make lemonade," "Bloom where you're planted", etc., etc...

Yeah, for now the superficial things are looking good to me (air conditioning, get to grow my hair out again, etc) and pretty soon I know I will learn to love it. I promise I won't disappear completely. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> You guys are too fun!

Poke,

I think it is Awesome that your continueing a path of success. With a positive attitude There is always a way to get where you want to be. Don't believe allot of the misconceptions. You can still make it into fighters later on. I did it so has many others.
I was a pretty upset kid when i went to the OV10. No helos for me, however With the amount of flight hours we were pulling in it became a blessing for me later on. After our Ov10's were sent off to the preservation farm. I was at that time able to throw my weight around with a solid Background and a good reputation. I earned Fighters and I have loved it ever since. The multi Engine Experiance between the Ov10 and the F15E helped me get into TPS. That long period of the F16 wouldnt have done it alone.

Give your full heart into the Airframe and Mission your assigned. whether your flying Tankers, Cargo or the Old gummers around. How you carry yourself and your performance is what will give you the things you want in the future.

The A-10 wont be around forever. I'm Confident you will.

Salute!

SORRY POKE,

BUT HERE'S SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT ALONG LUKE AND WARTHOG'S THOUGHT.

I WANTED FIGHTERS OUT OF TECH SCHOOL BUT GOT HEAVIES AND MORE SPECIFIC T-39'S AND C-140'S
WELL AFTER 2 TOURS WORKING ON THEM AND GETTING MORE CUPS OF COFFEE THAN A WAITRESS AT IHOP THEY CUT BACK THE T-39'S AND GOT MY CHANCE TO X-TRAIN.
I WAS GIVEN THE CHOICE OF

U-2
SR-71
A-10
F-16
F-15

AND I CHOOSE MY FAVORITE THAN
THE REST IS HISTORY
SO DONT EVER GIVE UP YOUR DREAM,HELL YOU MIGHT BE A RAPTOR PILOT ONE DAY
BESIDES VIP DUTY AINT BAD,GOOD PERKS<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

I WOULD STILL POLISH YOUR WINGS AND SWEEP YOUR CARPET OF YOUR JET ANYDAY

PRESS TO TEST
