<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>"...Any difficulties and delays in the march to Baghdad will not signal a lack of competence, although there will be plenty of media pundits ready to criticize our fighting men and women from the safety of TV studios. The unexpected is the stuff of war, and it always has been. That said, I'm no pessimist. We're going to fight a brilliant war. And while we all know the old saying about no plan surviving contact with the enemy, it's also fair to say that plenty of our enemies are not going to survive their first contact with our plan...." <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote> http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/opedcolumnists/71058.htm Also, anyone who can, go donate blood! I predict the first day of this war will be unlike anything that the world has ever seen. Can we win a war in 1 day? we just might find out. No, not in one day. It will take longer than that for our ground forces to enter and occupy Baghdad even if the entire Iraqi military surrenders in the frist 5 minutes of the war. 2 days is a real possibility though... "We shall leave no man behind" |

Wasn't the ground war of the first Persian Gulf War over in less than 100 hours? The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his. -General George Patton |

Something like that, but we didn't occupy anything really. We just drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait. THIS time we're going to have to secure every hut and doghouse in Baghdad. "See that green switch? Flip it down." |

My honest guess is 6 days start to finish to sieze control of Iraq. It's optomistic, but entirely possible. It will be interesting to see how long it really does take. "We shall leave no man behind" |

You could probably find a bookie who would give you lucrative odds on how long it would take... The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his. -General George Patton |

I remember telling one of the Waki Paki's that I'd bet him my (now collectable) Ka-Bar that America will overthrow the Taliban. Never matched, never answered. Wonder if anyone there would have more faith in Saddam? "Liberal bastards. I fart in thier general direction" |

I think that it will take about a week to secure Iraq entirely and "stabilize the region". The ground campaign in the 1st gulf war lasted only 100 hours and .... if our troops can advance quickly (given our present advances in aviation weaponry and close air support - go A10!) then we should be able to capture Iraq with minimal casualties given that Saddam's regime doesn't use chemical weapons. If he uses chemical weapons we could be in trouble and sustain more casualties than we did in '91. The A-10 is going to play a huge role here. The republican guard is still up and running with 100s of tanks... and the A-10 is the ideal weapon to take the fight to the enemy. "TACAIR, we deliver, you eat dust" |
