BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Iraq's parliament convened an "extraordinary session" Wednesday morning to proclaim support for President Saddam Hussein even as the U.S.-imposed deadline for war loomed less than a day away.
Parliament members cheered each other on as promises were made to fight to the "last drop of blood" against any "aggression" from the United States and its allies.
President Bush has demanded that Saddam and his sons Uday and Qusay give up power and go into exile by 8 p.m. EST Wednesday -- 4 a.m. Thursday in Baghdad.
"We hear these hollow words by the American administration regarding Iraq and its leader," said one parliament member. "The world has rejected this idiotic policy. But for Bush and his cronies, we say that there is no difference between Saddam Hussein and Iraq, and the people of Iraq will defend their country and their leader. And we advise Bush to stay away from Iraq if he wants to save his skin."
Other members called bush a moron and a coward. (Full story)
Tensions in the Persian Gulf are high: Overnight, a Kuwaiti patrol boat assigned to the USS Constellation battle group in the Gulf fired at an Iraqi vessel, killing one person aboard, said Rear Adm. Barry Costello. The shot was intended to be a warning after the vessel -- a "dhow," frequently used to ferry goods around the Gulf -- failed to stop for the Kuwaitis to board.
