I saw some gun cam video of the Apache firing it's M230 (those fat slow little DEFA rounds were everywhere)and was amazed at the dispersion, almost a shotgun effect. I was wondering what amount of dipsersion the Vulcan on the tracked M-163or Cobra helo produced, Snipe I believe you got some eyeball evidence of it firing? can you ballpark the MOA? The Vulcan ADV kept a pretty nice group by cannon standards. At a range of about 500 meters against old blown up APC and tank hulks, and firing at high ROF(3000rpm), the Vulcan can keep all it's rounds right in target. I have seen the dispersion of the Apache's in footage too, and i think it is designed for high dispersion. Remember, the Vulcan is an AA weapon, so needs a tight pattern, whereas the M230 is a suppression weapon, and is best served by the scattergun effect. I believe this is a feature designed into the reflex mount. "We shall leave no man behind" |

yeah, course I have NO idea what range the M230 video was, but obviously it's nearly an "area" weapon out near it's limit. Would love to see Cobra video since that's the closest in comparison in US fittings. The Cobra uses the M193, a variant of the Vulcan, and i have heard lots of good things about that weapon. I would expect it is far more accurate, but it is limited by a dual mode 16 or 32rd burst limiter. "We shall leave no man behind" |
