I stumbled onto your site a few weeks ago. After reading this on CNN's web site I thought you and your members would be interested in it.
I've included the letter I sent to Mr De Genova and the President of Columbia.

NEW YORK (AP) -- A Columbia University professor told an anti-war gathering that he would like to see "a million Mogadishus" -- referring to the 1993 ambush in Somalia that killed 18 American servicemen.

At Wednesday night's "teach-in" on the Columbia campus, Nicholas De Genova also called for the defeat of U.S. forces in Iraq and said, "The only true heroes are those who find ways that help defeat the U.S. military." And he asserted that Americans who call themselves "patriots" are white supremacists.
De Genova's comments about defeating the United States in Iraq were cheered by the crowd of 3,000, Newsday reported. But his mention of the Somali ambush -- "I personally would like to see a million Mogadishus" -- was largely met with silence.
A call Friday to De Genova, 35, an assistant professor of anthropology, was answered with a recording that said his voice mailbox was full.


A letter to Mr De Genova:

Protesting for peace is not unamerican. Wanting peace is noble. Calling for the deaths of American solders is another thing altogether. I served in the armed forces for 12 years. I don’t consider patriots white supremacists. It was not popular to be in uniform during my first years in the service of my country. It seems it may still not be popular with some in the anthropology department at Columbia. I love freedom of speech. I believe it is our single most valued right. My father was a reporter for 54 years. Freedom of the press fed, clothed and educated me. I would how ever like to point out that every single right we Americans hold dear was paid for with the blood of PATRIOTS. When the rent is due on those rights, who stands up? Solders! I don't recall seeing any assistant professors of anthropology in the dirt next to me. George Orwell said: "We sleep safely in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would harm us". We may not like it. It is ugly. But, it is the truth. I am insulted and sickened by your comments. I could fly off the handle and say to you Mr De Genova; Shut the hell up. I didn't bleed so you could bad talk my country and it's solders. America, love it or leave it. But, in the end, that's not what this country is all about. That's not why PATRIOTS died earning those rights for us. That's not why SOLDERS have payed the taxes on those freedoms for 226 years. So, Mr De Genova, as a former solder who HAS paid for your rights with MY blood and sweat. I just want to applaud you for using those rights to the fullest and spitting in the face that secures YOUR freedom. Sleep securly in your bed tonight Sir. For there are still rough men standing watch for you. You don’t have to be greatful. You may hate and wish them dead but it’s ok, they’ve grown used to it.
Although I am not often an outspoken person, you have inspired me. I intend to use MY right to free speech and write every person I can at Columbia University, its anthropology department, Administration, faculty and alumni. I intend to inform them how deeply I respect your freedoms and also how appalled I am that a person such as yourself could rise to the position of assistant professor at a school like Columbia. Where you nodoubt will continue to teach a new generation to hate. Hate themselves, their country and the people who keep them free.

Columbia and the other Ivy schools are over-rated when it comes to topics of academic excellence/freedom. Only thing I like about the place is its wonderful architecture. Trust me, I know.

NEW YORK — The controversy over a Columbia University assistant professor who called for the bloody defeat of U.S. troops in Iraq refuses to die, with critics heaping scorn and supporters saying he has gone into hiding after receiving numerous death threats. A graduate student told the Columbia Spectator that Nicholas De Genova and his wife were "fearing for their lives" after receiving some 1,000 threatening phone and e-mail messages. The threats led De Genova to nix his two classes on Tuesday, according to the student newspaper.

A school senior whose father is an Army colonel serving in Kuwait was among those who slammed De Genova's remarks. "A Columbia professor wished death upon the father of a Columbia University student and possibly [on the parents of] other students," William Pratt told the New York Post, adding he was "appalled and devastated" by De Genova’s harsh remarks. "What really pushes me over the edge is when a professor basically wishes for the slaughter of U.S. military men and women who gave him the right to free speech and to make those disgusting comments," Pratt told the Post.

I want to acknowledge your email message concerning Assistant
Professor De Genova's remarks.  I am appalled by his outrageous
comments.  I want to assure you that his comments in no way represent
my views nor anyone with whom I have spoken at the University.  His
comments were not made in a classroom, but rather at a teach-in, at
which the University does not prescribe what is said or who speaks.
Assistant Professor De Genova was exercising his freedom of speech
when he made those remarks.  However, free speech does not insulate
him from criticism.  Our faculty and students have not been silent in
their denunciation of his remarks.
While Nicholas De Genova's words properly invite anger and sharp
rebuke, there are few things more precious on any University campus
than freedom of thought and expression.  That is the teaching of the
First Amendment and I believe it should be the principle we live by at
Columbia University.
I appreciate your adding your voice to those who have expressed their
opinions.  At a time of war, when American troops are in harm's way,
his comments are especially disturbing.  I am particularly saddened
for the families of those whose lives are at risk and who must endure
the pain provoked by his statements.
