I was wondering why after Somalia when several Rangers manning the .50 cal MG were killed by militia fire. That a cupola (or at least a gun shield) similiar to one on the old M113 ACAV weren't put in to help reduce area of exposure of the gunner. For an HMMWV that is. I remember in Vietnam War, the Gun shield was added after heavy losses by ARVN and US forces. Would it interfere with clearance when air transported? |

The Army and USMC refuse to use gun shields on anything. Everyone knows they work, but Uncle Sam has been disinterested for a long time. "US Army Snipers- One shot, one kill" |
