If anyone has not caught the footage of the firefight under Baghdad's highway overpass of Rt8, i HIGHLY suggest you check it out. At one point, a wounded US SpecOps soldier is actually firing his shotgun while he is being carried on a strectcher! In another segment, a wounded US Army Ranger(and a veteran of the Mogadishu raids), Sgt Bob Gallagher, drags himself to an upright position with severe leg wounds so that he could fire WHILE being treated by a medic. The cameraman on the scene reported that by the end of the firefight, which lasted 7 hours, even the Medics and the Chaplin were all firing weapons. The cameraman said he came within a minute of grabbing a weapon himself and firing, the situation was so desperate. What an amazing display of courage and coolness under fire, and an example for all to see. ~S~ "US Army Snipers- One shot, one kill" Edited by - M21 Sniper on Apr 11 2003 3:39 PM |

Do you by any chance have a link to were we can find the vid?? The good stuff has to be seen live at night (daytime over there of course) the replay is always cut up the next day and you never get to see the true battle as it happened. We all know that war and killing is bad, but when it is necessary (and it is), it is nice to be able to see our heroes do there thing! -Caine "There is no better site than 12,000 US Marines.... I don't have a link, but a search of the MSNBC site might get you results. They have been playing a 'highlight' reel of the battle constantly though. "US Army Snipers- One shot, one kill" |

Not trying to nit pick, but his names Bob Gallagher. Also known as Blackhawk Bob. Was his wound really that bad? Couldn't really tell, at any rate, that's his third purple heart. (smiley's won't come up, so pretend the approve smiley is here) Don't feel bad about the name mix up though, I called him Bill Gallagher on ARFCOM, the one comedians name. "Guys...I'm going down" |

I stand corrected, thankfully at that. He should definitely have his name represented properly. His wound looked pretty bad to me as he was dragging himself to the M-113 APC so he could return fire. The guy is an ironman. "US Army Snipers- One shot, one kill" |

How about the guy that ran to the vehicle that was next door to a burning vehicle, with ammo cooking off, and tried to move it. Wow. Fender Don't tell me what you think, what does the T.O. say. |

I think that was the same guy before he got wounded fender, but i'm not too sure. The dude that popped the Iraqi from the stretcher showed some amazing situational awareness, to say the least. Man, our guys kick ass. "US Army Snipers- One shot, one kill" |

Unfortunately the 56k setting is poor quality, the 100k looks sharp if you have the connection to keep it streaming. I was unable to download the clip, here is the link to the file itself that I pulled out of my temp internet files: mms://od-msnbc.msnbc.com/msnbc/video/10 ... 030410.asf I already tried useing a "mms://" download utility. -Caine "There is no better site than 12,000 US Marines.... Outstanding footage of firefights...reminds me of those we had in the Nam, although ours had alot more greenery between us and the enemy. Hey man, you always continue to lay down a good strong line of fire regardless of what it takes. Not to mention, you return fire immediately! TxMx, big respect for the soldiers fighting today in Iraq, but also: BIG respect for those who were fighting in Nam. I posted before that I´m just reading a few books written by soldiers who were in Vietnam. Do you have any suggestions about good and realistic books? BTW, 3/506th were the "Currahees"? I just saw an interview with the father of the wounded soldier fireing from the strecher. His father says he was shot at least 4 times, legs and abdomen! The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. - Edmund Burke |

I signed up so that I could post a couple comments. First let me say, I never served in our GREAT military, and deeply regret it. But did check into joining about a year ago, and was told that Im now too old. I have the utmost respect for all that serve in our Military. You are ALL our heroes!!!! I watch the news and see our troops injured, and get all choked up. I see them sleeping during the day in a hole in the sand, or in the mud or in a sandstorm, and I get choked up. I love this country and what it stands for, and I support Our President and Our Troops. When I saw the clip on the news about this firefight, my jaw also hit the floor. Again I got all choked up. Those are OUR boys running into enemy fire to rescue their own...that was one of ours that ran to the ammo truck while the one next to it was burning and cooking off rounds. I wanted to find that clip to save it for my children. I want them to know what a true Hero is. And those guys to me...are true hero's. Now that I have run on for entirely too long. I would like to say, to all of those who are and have served, and their familys that support and love them. THANK YOU for your service to our Country. Here is one American that will never forget you or your sacrifices. |

I heard that Dick Cheney is thinking of retiring at the end of this term. "BLACKHAWK BOB FOR VICE-PRESIDENT!" No, wait, why would I want to do that to the guy? Hasn't he suffered enough for his country? "The First Rule in a Gunfight: Have a gun. If you violate this rule, no other rules apply" Jeff Cooper |
