Spent last week at Ft. Benning, GA, prior to my deployment. As I passed the entrance to their sniper school, Snipe, I rendered the appropriate salute! There was a Navy Lt in our group for M-9 quals. Keeping in mind you had 50 rounds, 40 targets and only had to hit 16 of them...she took two sessions (100 rounds, 80 targets) It was 95F with humidity to match and a bunch of Army types just about ready to shoot the targets for her!

Sorry to sound thick, but is an M-9 some sort of course of fire?

And if so, what is it?

I'd love to know what sort of CoF they give to 50 rounds to hit 16 target on

I'm pretty sure when they say M-9 they're reffering to the Beretta 9mm handgun.

Boomer- To be honest, I don't think this female swabbie could hit the ocean!

Snipe- yup, sign out front; change the 'p' in spithole to an 'h'. Heck, even I qualified with my first 16 rounds!

BR- that's the one.

I probably wouldn't be any better than her. I couldn't shoot 9mm for dribbly toffee.

What size targets and how far away?

I used to have a S&W 5904, mates had Glock 17's (I think) and one guy who had more money than sense had a SIG P22?. I couldn't shoot any of them worth a damn.

Rather that telling the truth and admitting I had no talent and even less natural ability I just used to say real men only shoot .45 ACP and refused to touch the 9's

Since I was civvie, they didn't go into how we rated (maybe embarrassed?) What quals as 'expert'?

Leave for BWI Monday afternoon, then mil flight east around 2200.

Snipe,

P210, that rings a bell, mind you it was about 4 years ago. Was that the one with the mag release lever at the base of the grip.

All I know was that he said it cost a bomb. Trouble is I thought that one was a .45

Looks like the brains cooked...

I knew spend all my time in the same room with a pot of boiling lead casting heads was going to come back a bite me in the ass

BTW,

I wasn't joking when I said he had more money than brains…

He bought a .50cal Desert Eagle that he wasn't allowed to fire..!

In the UK if you had a Class 5 FAC you could pretty much buy anything you wanted, but civilian ranges had a maximum calibre and fps rating. And the max cal was .454

So legally we couldn't play with it. But who gives a toss about legality

BIG BANGS…

The P-210 is a 9mm, but does have the funky mag release at the heel of the grip. EXTREMELY accurate pistols.

The P-220 is a .45, but it's not that expensive a firearm.

Y'know 30mm, not really sure what constitutes expert, cause i shot a perfect score.

44hollowpoint- thery were full-sized black torso silhouettes set at about 10, 15, 20, 25 and 31 meters.

Snipe, I must not have done too badly- the rangemaster yelled "Who was on 10?" and when I stepped forward he asked "Have you shot before? Did that &*%$# Palitinsky put you in here as a ringer?"

Thanks 30mm,

I was interested to see what standards were expected. I'm guessing they are about the same size as the ones we used to use for practical.

Not wanting to draw fire here, but it sounds fairly easy. Providing you've got passed the 'dropping the gun when it goes bang' stage

Mind you, I've never tried it with somebody screaming all manner of wild blue funk in my ear at the same time...

I'm pretty sure it was 7, 10, 15, and 25 meters when i qualed back in 88. Sounds like they changed it.

Amen to that...

It always used to be worst firing from the bench. I guess cos I was standing still. Out of a 30 round CoF it wasn't unusual for me to shake out 4 or 5 cases from my shirt...

Mind you the worst was when a red hot piece of .45 brass got stuck between the frame of my Oakley's and the bridge of my nose.

That sizzled ...

I do not recommend Bahrain as a summer vacation spot...heat index is 120-130F! On to Qatar and points NE!
