Sounds like 101 st decided to go all out in getting Saddam's sons. Tow missles, 50 cal, and everything else they had. I think they sent a message, do you think Saddam is listening or sh**ing. |

BBC Online news have given a timeline for what they think happened. What made me laugh was this:
quote:
1300: Forces fire 10 Humvee-mounted TOW missiles into house - although commanders decide against using Apache helicopters and A10 planes because of the risk of collateral damage.

Here is the full article... The US military in Iraq has given a blow-by-blow account of the operation which it says resulted in the deaths of Saddam Hussein's sons Qusay and Uday. BBC News Online looks at the key moments. Monday 21 July, evening: US military approached by source and given intelligence that Saddam Hussein's sons Qusay and Uday are in a house on the northern edge of Mosul. Operation is planned overnight. Tuesday 22 July, before 1000: Ground troops and armoured vehicles cordon off area around house and take up positions for operation. Qusay and Uday Hussein were barricaded in a top-floor room 1000: "Cordon and knock" operation takes place. Troops advance to door of house, knock on door, and use a megaphone to demand that those thought to be inside the house come out. There is no response. 1010: Troops begin to enter building and are immediately fired on by the targets, who are barricaded in a fortified part of the first floor of the building. Three coalition soldiers are wounded on the stairs, one is wounded outside building. Forces withdraw and request a quick reaction force and heavy weaponry, which is then brought in "at a fairly measured pace". Sporadic gunfire continues from house. 1045: Units begin to "prep the objective" - to fire on the part of the building where the four targets are holed up, in the hope of "neutralising the threat". Mark-19 grenade launchers and Humvee-mounted 50-calibre machine-guns, as well as a small number of AT4 rockets are used. 1122: Second brigade combat team begins movement of additional ground forces, including an additional anti-tank platoon. 1145: 0H58 Delta helicopters with rockets and 50 calibre machineguns join the assault. 1150: Additional anti-tank platoon in position, psychological operations team are also present. 1155: Commander decides to make second attempt to enter the house. 1200: Troops attempt to re-enter house. They secure the ground floor, but again receive fire from the first floor. Commander opts to withdraw and continue firing on house. 1300: Forces fire 10 Humvee-mounted TOW missiles into house - although commanders decide against using Apache helicopters and A10 planes because of the risk of collateral damage. 1320: Troops enter the building for the third time, believing three of the four people in the building to have been killed by the missile attack. They face no fire as they move upstairs, but are fired on as they reach the first floor. They return fire, killing the remaining individual (believed to be Qusay Hussein's 14-year-old son, Mustafa). They begin securing the building. 1400: Building has been completely secured, four bodies are extracted and taken away for identification. BTW, Congratulations to the US Forces on wasting what have to have been two of the nastiest pieces of sh*t to have walked this earth for a long time ... Forces fire 10 Humvee-mounted TOW missiles into house - although commanders decide against using Apache helicopters and A10 planes because of the risk of collateral damage. 2 or 3 MPAT-OR rounds from an Abrams hypotheticaly nearbywould've leveled the building as well as killed absolutely everyone inside- Rest in pieces you demon seeds! |

Yeh, But you would have had to have gone through the rubble with a sieve looking for their teeth to match against dental records LOL... BTW, I love it when a bunch of TOWs and bucket fulls of .50cal are the softly, softly option... "A .44 magnum beats 4 Aces everytime..." |

They shoulda just tossed a satchel charge in there, muwahahaha. 10 TOW missiles means that it cost us $600,000 to kill four guys. A satchel charge costs about 800 bucks. "Trample the wounded, hurdle the dead." |

If it was up to me. Id use the most ungodly weapon I had available to me in theater. Drop some leaflets the night before. Big Show at noon, be there or be square! Start pulling troops back, Invite some hard rock bands we will call it "Lords of Thunder and Rock and Roll show" Call CNN to put up camera pavilions. Issue Budweiser, Lawnchair's, Shades and BBQ pork and beef. Then of course send in the weasels and then the bantam wait 15 minute playtime boys, after the fireworks start cooking off start useing HAWGS to stir up the Hornets Nest. Use in cockpit film and radio for the play by play action relayed for the troops viewing pleasure. kinda like the XFL. Once all the Cave Diggers are out from under their rocks. Drop a couple B61's for the halftime show. |

"And it would of cost us how much in SGLI for the poor grunts unneedlessly wasted catching lead to toss a satchel charge in the window?" Four men cannot cover all the approaches to a multistory house when the attackers have massive suppresive fire on their side. I highly doubt it would have cost any US lives. Charging in the house like they did repeatedly didn't even cost any US lives. "Trample the wounded, hurdle the dead." Edited by - m21 sniper on Jul 24 2003 4:32 PM |

Although I gotta admit using captured RPG rounds for effect is good karma. Assuming the suckers are in good shape. We lost a troop or two to bad ones. Secon dof all, our method is a lot more direct: Merkava Round right at the building, up to 16 Hellfires right at the building, or a couple bombs dropped from an F-16 right at the building. Walla! My point exactly, the BBQ's and the half-time show are just incentives. I believe we didn't go IDF all-out because we wanted to localize the damage. Edited by - Tritonal on Jul 25 2003 11:32 AM |

How about just working the building over with nothing but a couple .50's from 550 meters? Sell chances on how many rounds it takes to collapse a building. $5 a pop. "The First Rule in a Gunfight: Have a gun. If you violate this rule, no other rules apply" Jeff Cooper |
