A guy in the office was reading this story off the web. When he finished I asked him what new Arnie or Willis film he was reading about. When he told me it was for real, my reaction was "What the fu&k..!" Mind you I've heard this is a popular way of holding folk to ransom in South Amercia. They kidnap somebody and lock an explosive collar onto thier neck. Only unlocking it when the get the money. Remind anybody of the Running Man film? "A .44 magnum beats 4 Aces everytime..." |

Hey guy I have feeling the bomber was a sci-fi junky because there were several movies about using collar bombs to keep prisoner in prisons without walls during the 70's and 80's can not remember the movie names but they do exist. |

Interesting enough. back when i was a 18year old reserve recon bubba. We had a MsGySgt. That shared with us an example of how to use explosives in a Combat Enviroment. His team in Vietnam was working on Blowing up a Bridge on a major Vietcong Waterway. During the night they Kept pulling Snatch and Grab ops on the sampans of VietCong traveling the waterway, while they were working on setting the demo on this bridge. by morning they had Captured over 11 VietCong soldiers. they subsequently blew the bridge and exfilled the area... they never had a problem with their Catch. Simply because Each Enemy combatant had RDX Det Chord wrapped around their necks and a redneck Grunt with the Firing device in his hand. After the POW's Witnessed the bridge explosion they were more than content to have a peacefull journey. <img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle> |

Unless some device was wired to the entire circumference of the collar, once you were out of sight of the kidnapper, removal would be as easy as going to the hardware store and picking up a Makita grinder with an abrasive blade. Even hardened steel wouldn't stand up for more than a minute. If that wasn't possible, go buy a good set of handcuffs, meet the guy, stick a 9mm up his nostril, handcuff him to yourself and tell him that when you go, he goes too.
