Thought I would start another thread vice hijacking the other one. Getting back to Dick Vermeil, really I think he deserves more credit than is given to him for developing a high percentage passing attack. Bill Walsh is generaly accepted as the father of the west coast offense, but this overlooks what Vermeil did in Philly durring the late 70's early 80's. Jaworski threw alot to runningback Wilbert Montgomery, had a envolved tight end in Spagnola, plus had Harold Carmicheal and later Mike Quick, really Vermeil was the first one to get way from the "run first" mentality and use his passing game as both a ball control and a quick strike offense, had he not retired so early, and won a few Super Bowls I think you would have heard more raves about Vermeil. The Rams Super Bowl run brought attention to his offensive prowess, but I saw it back in the early 80's with Vermeil in Philly.

I agree, Vermiel was a great coach that not only had an excellent offensive mind, but who was a true motivator that can get the most out of his men.

His players know that he does truly love them, and he isn't afraid to let the world know that either.

That also is his greatest shortcoming...with the Eagles he stayed commited to his Veterans long after he should have been replacing them with youngsters.

In any case, he is truly loved here in Philadelphia, and he still is one of this cities favorite sons, even after all these years.

I once met Bill Bergey(all pro linebacker from the Vermeil Eagles), and to hear him talk about Vermeil, you could tell the two men obviously had a helluva bond, probably best described as love.

Lurie(the owner of the Eagles) tried to hire Vermiel back on b4 he hired A. Ried, but it fell apart at the last second. I can only imagine how many super bowls we would have now had Lurie not screwed it up.

WOW !!I actually agree with everything in both those posts lol.

yeah Vermiel is the kind of guy you WANT to sacrifice yourself for as opposed to the type of coaches who try to intimidate you into doing well, he gets more out of everybody who plays for him. I think Madden was the same way.

Now if I can just get the blonde tuna to crawl in a box and go away....

Watch out for the Giants. They haven't played as well as they can. They have a bye week to work on some things and then watch when they romp Miami the week after next. Collins, Toomer, Hilliard, Shockey, Barber; it don't get much better and the D will improve. It made mental mistakes which will be corrected but it has the talent. The NFC East is theirs!

Looks like the games are gonna be a homers crib this fall. Ill bring the beer.

It gets better homer, don't get to down bud.

Viper...I dunno, I don't think Kerry Collins is the answer at QB. He has a hitch in his throw makes for a slow release against the blitz. He has never showed me much under pressure. Its early, but I think it is going to be the Seahawks and the Chiefs. Two former AFC West rivals. Ray Rhodes has had a good defense whereever he has been, looks like Seattle will follow that trend, they are +12 in takeaway giveaways right now.

My Raiders well....I predict they will finish 5-11 and even that looks very optimistic after Mondays 31-10 thrashing in Denver.
Al Davis is a moron of MacNamara like proportions....

I still get pissed when I think of Marcus Allen being wasted on the bench, canning Mike Shanahan, Letting Gruden walk....I hate to say I hate the man, but....

I'll say it I HATE AL DAVIS!! the Marcus thing just leaves a bad taste in your mouth, sooo low class.

I'll need the Chiefs to get a good back-up to "the Holy Man" before I put them in the playoffs, hopefully my "vitory slippers" will push them over the playoff wall this year, we'll see lol

anybody want Mike Martz ? anybody? anyone at all? I'll get his plane ticket (wont pay for it BUT I'll go get it!!). What a suprise, you keep more protection in and you get a victory!! idiot

Martz is a buffoon, plain and simple.

Al Davis....well, the man is just plain evil.

Hey Matt, I like three teams, the Raiders (from when they used to be mean), the Saints (because they've always been underdogs), and the Bears (because.... well just because). :D

Overkill??? I'd kill a fly with a howitzer if I had one.

lol...Raiders haven't been mean since the mid 80's.

They are a legacey team, resting on past glory.

The days of Lester Hayes, Mike Haynes, Mat Millen, Howie Long, Vann McElroy, Jim Plunkett, Marcus Allen, and Todd Christensen are long gone I am afraid....

I actually miss the LA Raider days cause that what I grew up watching, my father of course followed them in the 70's when they were really good...And they will always be Oakland to him, but to me...LA Raiders just sounds better.

Well while the entire team isn't made up of players remniscent of the convicts in "The Longest Yard" anymore... Romanowski for one is not a nice guy.... He is therefore one of my favored linebackers :D

Overkill??? I'd kill a fly with a howitzer if I had one.

Yeah...Romo is a throwback.
Guy has issues, but plays the game like it should be. Gannon has the guts and intensity of a Billy Kilmer, and Tim Brown and Rice keep themselves in great shape...Fathertime is catching up though, and it showed on Monday Night. Still love my Raiders, but Al Davis sure makes it hard to be a fan....

the Chiefs are hosting da Raidahs this week, should find out something about BOTH teams. Are the Chiefs for real, and are the Raiders just mentaly slacking off this year. If a Chief or Raider cant get up for this game, then they're just pretenders.

Naw Boomer...KC is hosting Denver, that game should determine who is in the driver seat for the AFC West. Raiders have a soft schedule, Bears this week, then Cleveland to right things before they play KC at Oakland on October 20th..Looks like that one is a Sunday Night game...I think you may have glanced at last years schedule by mistake, or its wishfull thinking that you are facing the Raiders and not Denver ;)

Hey Snipe, what did you think about Rush Limbaughs comments directed at Donovan NcNabb?
