Well, after a cascade system failure i'm back online.

So, what did i miss?

DAMN SNIPE,WE BOTH GOT BIT!!!

I FINALLY GOT MINE BACK UP RUNNING RIGHT.
I DID FIND OUT SOMETHING IN THE PROCESS. I HAD A NEW MODEM PUT IN. SUSPECTED OLD ONE WAS "HIT". I HAVE THE SURGE PROTECTOR WITH PHONE LINE TO IN IT.
MY MODEM SPEED WOULD JUMP UP AND DOWN 19,200 TO 28.800 AND IN BETWEEN.
WELL SPENT ALL DAY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY I COULDNT LOG IN. GAVE ME NO ANSWER MESSAGE ETC...
ONCE IN AWHILE I WOULD CONNECT BUT FOR ONLY 60-90 SEC AT A TIME.
ALL THE SETTING WERE CORRECT,PLUS WERE WORKING UP TO SATURDAY WITH KNOW PROBLEMS.
FRIDAY WE HAD A BAD T-STORM THAT KNOCK OUT POWER. AND THEN IN CHICAGO SATURDAY THE WERE UPGRADING PHONE LINES. MY PROBLEMS WERE STARTING.
TALKED TO MY FRIEND WITH THE ISP,I WAS THE ONLY ONE HAVING PROBLEMS.

WELL WERE SO FAR OUT AND OUR PHONE LINES ARE OLD THAT AFTER THEY WORKED ON THE LINES SOMETHING HAPPENED.I PUT ANOTHER MODEM IN AND INSTALLED THE CATCH A CALL PROGRAM AND THE DAMN THING GOES OFF ALL THE TIME WITH NO INCOMMING CALLS. I HAVE MY CALL WAITING DISCONNECTED TOO.
WELL THE PHONE LINES HAVE THE "GHOST" ON THEM NOW. YOU HERE THE ECHO ETC.. AT CERTAIN TIMES OF DAY,SO THE COMPUTER WAS KICK ITS SELF OFF LINE LIKE SOMEONE WAS PICKING UP THE PHONE.
BOUGHT A BIGGGER BETTER SURGE SPRESSOR 2600 JULES AND FILTER FOR PHONE LINES AND NOW ITS FINE.

LEARNED 2 THINGS
1. A MODEM IS EASY TO INSTALL WITH YOUR WIFES HELP SEEING
2. THAT DE REGULATION OF PHONE COMPANIES WAS A BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!
CERTAIN THINGS NEED TO BE REGULATED AIRTRAVEL,PHONES AND POWER

I HAVE ATT ,WHICH LEASE THE LINE FROM SBC WHICH INTURN LEASES FROM GTE.
SO JUST TRY TO GET SOMEONE TO FIX YOUR LINES.

I got hit by a surge few years back. I called around my local area and most of the puter parts folks were ROFLing. They were out of modems and we had apparently had some serious surges. I ended up buying a US Robotics modem, they are built to take a hit and keep on trucking. I had a phone line surge protector also.

Goose, you might try goosing your modem speed on the system. I have my 56K goosed to 115,200bps. Just hit the highest speed they have listed and hope for the best.

Another trick I use, when visible lightning is rolling in, I shutdown and unplug the system, including the phone line for the storm duration.

One final trick, if I am departing for more than 24 hours, I shutdown and unplug everything. It's mainly to defeat a possible sneaky peak look at my system. Let alone possible storm protection. Otherwise, my system is on 24/7.

THE SAME MODEM AND KICKED UP THE SPEED.
I STILL HAVE THE DIFFERANT CONNECT SPEEDS BUT,HEY I'LL TAKE 19,200 CONSTANT THEN 26,000 OFF AND ON.
