ok in a while I'm gonna take the plunge, putting Linux on a second hard drive. I know 1 or 2 folks around here use or have used Linux as an OS so I have a question, which of the numerouse versions would be best for me? My criteria are, #1 it's gotta be free and downloadable, just the way it has to be for me. #2 it has to be easy for a nugget like me to install, use and set up. #3 it has to be popular enough to have a user base large enough that I can tap for info cause I dont know anyone with Linux. my primary uses will be gaming (probly a no-go with Linux but that's ok I wanna try it) Graphics (also a bit of a weak spot for NOW) audio editing and net surfing, I believe they have adequete Email proggys too. I plan on opperating it alongside my larger HD with WinME installed and hopefully it can grow with improvements in the fields that I'm interested in until I can eventualy switch over to it exclusivly. so any thoughts? boomer I run my servers on suse linux never had a crash. have several desktop units using linux, for work purposes. It is not personal pc system yet. However, my business is built around using them because it harder to crash when configured properly and you dont have give everyone the same level of access to install or run programs. Plus with linux you can pick and choose what level of functionality you want. A full blown OS or server OS running bare minimum software like apache, Mysql, and send mail for speed on the web. Matt |
