I was just wondering were you guys get your aircraft lithos at. I was wanting one with the specific sqaudron and tail code. I have a buddie grad. from UPT in a month, and wanted to get him a T-38. I found a website before with all the differant AF Sqaudrons listed but I forgot the name of the place. Thanks for any help.

That's right...The framed "Thunderstruck" litho I got my dad is hanging right above this computer, and I still love it. I wish Dru Blair would post some new stuff though.

I love that F-111 litho too...

Thanks for the kind words regarding my artwork.

I'm very interested in creating another A-10 painting.
From what I'm reading on this forum, it looks like a tribute to the A-10's actions in Iraq would be in order.

I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Best regards,

With all do respect. I was there loading the A-10s a year ago. I have a suggestion for artwork. I think the number was like 9 to 1 when it came to ANG to Active Duty A-10s on the ramp. And most of Pope's were in the phase docs tore down or broke. I think it is in order (yes Im biased) to give credit to the ANG in country. Battle Creek, Willow Grove, and Boise all flew most of the combat missions and hands down out gunned and out bombed their active duty counterparts across the board. They may have refered to out pilots as "Cowboys", but the numbers spoke for themselves. Pope put 2 A-10s in Iraq at Talill AB first......but after that, they werent seen for 2 days. I was there I know. It was Battle Creek and Boise towing the line.

Perhaps a working title of "Let Freedom Ring" and a dessert valley, with the Afgan high mountains in the background. A ground spotter (or FAC team in the foreground laying prone) lasing a cave entrance and a couple of A-10's delivering the ordinance to the appointed spot, so that destiny may intersect their repsective courses.

Just a thought.

Mr. Blair...good to see you back again :) I'm sure that if you were to do another A-10, the guys here would eat it up! Including myself, I'm sure we would purchase one too :). Thunderstruck STILL looks awesome in my computer/airplane room. I still getting a kick out of telling the story of how it got it's name to visitors who comment on your work. I hope that Thunderstruck sold well for you.

I wasn't there...but I agree with you..I love A-10s with shark teeth, but wouldn't mind the new painting to be from another unit/base...

Keep the suggestions comming....we all know the picture will be a Masterpiece if Dru does do another A-10!

And here is my input (lol)...my "great" art skills...

I belive first and formost it should be NON-BSAE specific! It should be at an angle which shows no unit marking but still relays the power and pride of the A-10 community as a whole! This painting should be one any person who servied on OIF OR supported it could hang on their wall with pride!

I will have to think about it but there are angles which can be used to get this affect! Say a shot looking down a banking A-10 from the wingtip to the cockpit with the battlfield below showing only the forward half of the aircraft. You can still have A-10s in the background but at a distance the making can't be seen. Or a shot looking over the sholder of the pilot (hehe showing the cockpit in detail) and a gun run or mav shot.....

I agree with a little from several of you guys: OIF or OEF (and I'm biased towards OEF ); gray with no shark's teeth, since the original carries them; a scene depicting CAS, since that has been one of it's primary roles of late; and Dice' idea of say, over the shoulder of the attacking Hog's wingman.

So, the good news is that Dru is considering another A-10 piece; the bad news is we have to wait; the good news is I'll have time to save up for it, and THIS time, I'm going for the whole enchilada...proof with remarque!

I dont care whos base it is either as long as it is Gooses jet ................which just happens to be my jet. LAU88's and Litening II pods.............yeah buddy !
OK seriously I think the best depiction would be some of the ass kickin' CAS missions ALL A-10 UNITS flew up at the damn on the river. No doubt they were the toughest for all the pilots and would depict best what we all do.
IMHO

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

I AGREE WITH BILLY,

SHOULD BE 0166

BUT DICE HAS A GREAT IDEA,MAKE IT NON -UNIT PLUS I LOVE THE HOG ALL DECKED OUT FOR CAS!

A COCKPIT VIEW LOOKING AT THE "RIVER" WITH A MAV AT THE SECOND IT COMES OFF THE RAIL.
EVEN THE PILOTS VIEW OF THE MAV FIRING.
EITHER FROM THE WING VIEW OR COCKPIT.
EVERYONE HERE WOULD AGREE,BESIDES THE GUN,THE AGM-65 SAYS "WARTHOG"

I'm liking the idea Dice has..."a shot looking over the sholder of the pilot (hehe showing the cockpit in detail) and a gun run or mav shot" with a couple A-10s in the "background" banking and droping chaff/flares after they finished the bomb run or something....To be honest...I just want Dru to do anything A-10 (again) because "Thunderstruck" was awesome (and I've got his "The Eye of the Eagle" also...hell...all Dru's paintings are excelent!)

You must be from Michigan or Idaho. What about Willow Grove?

Here here to all those above (I think Dice mentioned it first) who said to keep the unit markings on the down low.

It would be a difficult job for Mr. Blair to paint something looking over the pilots shoulder if the pilot is concentrating on anything between 10 and 2 o'clock. Too much stuff in the way to show decent enough detail in that hemisphere.

Along those lines, if there was one A-10 hawking the fight providing cover, the pilot would probably be looking out the side of the canopy...show just enough on the outer edge of the painting so the viewer sees the pilot, canopy frame, and whatever else blurry, and the spot on the ground where he is looking would have the most detail and be in focus. The view looking from 2 to 5 o'clock or 7 to 10 o'clock would allow a relatively unobstructed view of the ground...depending how far back you go, the wing could be in the way unless the pilot was in some decent bank.

The other A-10 could be on his safe escape, popping flares, while his bombs are schwacking some Iraqis.

Perhaps a near-dusk scene would help with not being able to see unit markings...but if Dru paints it accurately, the A-10 coming off the weapons delivery pass will be fairly small and it would be hard to see anyway. Guess there's always artists' license.

Just my .02 cents.

PAINT!
