To quote Snipe and not hijack the "Memorial Day" thread:

I hate those stinking berets.

Question: Why didn't the Army just make a unique beret for the "legs", and leave the black for the Rangers, if they were so hell-bent to have a beret for everyone? And why choose black? Why not have everyone wear a green beret, and make the special forces pick another color? Why were the Rangers seemingly picked on?

Dumb decision, IMO. My ETACs that were assigned to me wouldn't wear their black berets on Army posts, preferring to have their BDU covers instead.

Lord only knows T7, i guess Shinseki thought a beret would help enlistment rates.

It irks me to no end to see REMFs walking around in the time honored beret of the Rangers. Besides, the soft caps were almost as cool looking, and actually kept your head dry and ears warm.

We get baseball caps. With the squadron embriodred on them. I'd prefer that to a beret, actually keeps the sun out of your eyes.

well of course we wore BDU caps when on the flight lines or doing ES, but still we got some weird tan lines to explain.

In the IDF, IIRC every different corps/arm of the Armed Forces, (Diffrent facets of SpecOps have different colors also. Tzanhanim are red, Givati is purple, etc...) but soldiers only wear them on formal occasions. Otherwise they are clipped over the shoulder on the everyday uniform and aren't there on the combat uniform
