I probably could'nt agree more. I'm presently reading John Stossel's book and he talks a lot about things just like this. I had to be convinced by a buddy to read the book because I loathe the media so much. He then told me it takes a lot of shots at them, factually, so that convinced me. Larry Bird came into the league and was widely known as the great white hope. I grew up in massachusetts with him as my sports hero, and you know what? Noone ever made a big deal out of calling him the Great white hope. How do you think that would go over now? Some reporter would probably goad some black player into saying something similiar to create a controversy for ratings and self advancement. Smitty |
