O Dark 30 last night, Working on the PC as I normally do in my career, Hear a Loud Explosion outside the House and then lost all power. We have a small shopping center one block away and thought possibly maybe an accident happended there or the powerplant distribution transformers that sits across from it. I quickly set some candles in the home, Checked on the kids in bed, and drove around the block to find the source of this explosion. laying across this 4 lane road (major throughfare in the township i live was a Telephone Pole that had snapped off mid way (20 Feet up) and the top half with the high voltage lines was laying in the road crossing both lanes of travel, as I got closer I found a Black Volks Jetta laying on the driver side next to the pole. I got out of my car and run over to see if i can render aid, Both doors are jammed and i bust window out with my maglight., their is one teenager in the backseat, and another the driver in the front, I reach in and start pulling the backseat person out and the car, ignites into flames, So here i am standing on the top of this car, in my sandles, Boxers trying to pull this kid out that is unconcious and the whole front of the engine area and the dash is on fire. I'm thinking here i am standing on the rear of the car pulling this kidd out next to the gas tank. I have to go that route as the downed wires are onhe opposite side, nd i can hear them arcing/buzzing etc. This is not a good situation to be in, Ive said many prayers in my life but i just couldnt drop the kid and run away for myself. I went ahead and pulled the kid out while the car was on fire. Got the kid away back to my car and ran back, I didnt even bother checking for a pulse or what not, i was hoping to get the driver out, by the time i got back to the car, the whole car ignited and there was not much i could do at that point. I called 911 and luckily the local PD and EMS was a few blocks away and they got their immediatly, plusthe other townships. I ran back to my victim and tried to do what i could to render aid, and shortly after the police and ems arrived to take over. This is how i spent my first 30 minutes into the 9/11 anniversary. having survived 22 years of Military service, a Mid-air/Egress and a 3 Wars. Really makes you wonder how Blessed and lucky you are, to still have a family, to be alive and thankful that your efforts were not in vain. I dont think this is luck. Has to be my faith in haveing a purpose in life, even at times i dont know what it is. The father of the driver/car owner arrived and removed some personal belongings out the car. I observed their reactions and how theycarried themselves. Just dont know if i could be that strong to deal with it, when my Kids start heading out in their independency in the next 5 years. "The power to Destroy the planet, is insignifigant to the power of the Air Force----Mudd Vader Edited by - mrmudd on Sep 11 2004 4:30 PM |

Mudd welcome to ems, great job. You violated every piss ant rule taught in Class about safety and did what needed to be done. Great job. Now it is your turn to tell the next generation what not to do, knowing with a wink you would do it again. |
