£80 CHRISTMAS DRUNK FINE

DRUNKEN yobs and those selling booze illegally face a tough crackdown on binge-drinking over the festive season.

Police can issue on-the-spot fines for buying or selling alcohol to under-18s, after new laws were introduced yesterday.

And drunk and disorderly behaviour may result in an £80 penalty - up by £30.

Licensing Minister Richard Caborn said: "The message is stark and simple - if you brawl in the street, urinate in a doorway or are sick in the kerb, you could be slapped with an £80 fine."

Police from more than 180 areas across England and Wales will have the power to issue the fines until January 3.

Home Office Minister Hazel Blears said: "Christmas is a time when people should be able to have a few drinks but that should not be an excuse for violent and anti-social behaviour."

Of the 30,500 premises police visited during a summer crackdown, four per cent were found to have sold drink to under-18s.

What they are saying is, a good night out now costs you £80.

damn this would never fly during mardi gras.

although i saw the funniest shit here a few years back. Guy taking a whizz on a police car, while an officer watched a cross the street. Lets just say he fell down hard into the pudle and got to visit Orleans Parish Prison for the rest of the holiday. As we all know you get arrested the weekend before mardi gras, well you will not get out until ash wensday as the judges are all partying.
