Thanx man. The problem with numbers is that they're so impersonal, and 2941 does not really give the same impression as 1 x 2941 does.

No doubt everyone remembers exactly what they were doing when they heard about all that. It might as well have happend 30 seconds ago I remember it so clearly. I was in M-16 class and a guy in front of the room's pager went off. I remember thinking 'busted' as he walked out to go make a phone call. He came back in and told us all, and we were in such disbelief. I was a tad concerned since my Mom worked in the WTC. They wound up cancelling the class and we were all back in the AMU watching this unfold on the TV. I thought I was eager to deploy and help kill the bad guys before that, I couldn't go soon enough after that.

They say that the only two things certain in life are death and taxes. I prefer them in that order.

I was on my way to my first day of work at a new job.

I heard about it on the Howard Stern radio show....so i didn't even know WHAT to think(he is quite the hoaxster at times).

Then i walked into the new job, and everyone was standing there watching the towers on TV- and my heart almost stopped. I watched the towers fall in the company of a dozen strangers.

They cut us loose at about 11am, and i left work and drove STRAIGHT to the local Army recruiter.

I was de-commissioning my first ship, a destroyer. As soon as I heard, I started rigging up a TV circuit for the crew, because we had previously removed our TV system.

It was not long after, that I started bugging the detailer for new orders to anything heading east: Ships, Squadrons, Sea bee battilion... what ever. He said no, and I had to wait untill 2003 to do my part, which was on a carrier in the Persian Gulf.

5 years in the AF today. Watched the second one hit as I was finishing breakfast after midshift. My wife (girlfriend at the time) freaked out when the Giant Voice came on yelling Delta. The next few nights were spent guarding my airplane(s) instead of prepping them. Boy was that a surreal week. You could hear a pin drop on the flight line, and there were nothing but stars in the sky. No lights, just stars.

You might be a "Bulldog" if: You bend over and grab your ankles when you hear: "EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE!"

Woke up at around 9 am-ish by the neighbor yelling about something next door. Shower & what not, I came back to my bedroom and chose to turn on the radio..and got a earfull of Howard Stern ranting about nuking the Middle East.

I was listening to all that & thinking wtf? Util he said something about turning on th news, so I did and the first image to come up was the gaping hole the first plane that hit the WTC made. The rest of the day was spent watching the news and trying to find out where six cousins who worked in the WTC were. (the two that were at the building and weren't running late made it out ok)

The wife (at the time GF) were on holiday in Cornwall.

The hotel we were in had cable TV.

I came in and clicked on Sky news and saw video of the first impact and the new anchors going on about it.

I actually started clicking through the channels thinking I had got a movie channel, you know how they often have a mock news anchor reporting something that's happened in the film. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

I must have taken 15 minutes for me to convince myself it was real.

I watched TV for about 3 hrs non stop. When we went to bed I was sure I'd wake up the next morning to the news you had nuked most of the middle east.

When we drove home, we stopped at a few service stations and I was so angry, if I had heard one person say anything condoning what had happened I would have ended up in jail for manslaughter...

As soon as the book of condolance opened at the American embassy in Edinburgh, I went and signed it.

Everywhere you went there was British fire trucks wearing the Stars and Stripe collecting for their collegues accross the pond. Man I stuffed some serious cash into those tins.

You're born, you keep your head down and you die. If you're lucky...

It seemed like all Brits reacted that way.

Little wonder that we yanks consider your nation our one true friend in the world today.

Yeah coincidentally an uncle died from a brain tumor around that time in 2001. So I was part of a family outing to NYC right around that time.

We barely started out when people came apon a checkpoint of sorts, some Fire Engine crews & emt's choking off part of the highway, and two guys gathering donations inside a pair of boots one held by each of them. The one Fireman came buy and collected money from my brother, Dad, and his current wife.I had to yell at him to wait a minute while trying to dig a five out of my pocket and he started speedwalking to the next car.
