Air force payout cures Santa woes

Reindeers are a vital part of Christmas

The Danish air force has admitted causing the death of Rudolph the reindeer and has paid compensation to Father Christmas.

Olovi Nikkanoff, one of Denmark's professional Santa Clauses, says his reindeer died of shock as fighter planes flew low overhead.

The air force admitted liability and paid him 31,175 kroner (£2,850).

"We're more than happy to pay if it means children around the world will get their presents," a spokesman said.

Mr Nikkanoff said he was devastated in February when he discovered his reindeer's body.

The animal had been grazing happily, he said, when two Danish F-16s thundered overhead.

He complained to the air force, which ordered an investigation.

"We got a letter from Santa complaining about his reindeer's death and looked into it seriously," air force spokesman Captain Morten Jensen told Associated Press.

Flight data showed the jets had been in the area at the time, and a vet concluded that their deafening roar had caused Rudolph to have heart failure.

Mr Nikkanoff feared he would have only one reindeer to pull his sleigh this Christmas.

But after the air force's decision he declared himself happy with the payout and said he was looking forward to this year's festive season with a new animal on his team.

I read it this morning in the newspaper.

I think this is happend between two pilots:
Pilot 1: Is that red thing a target?
Pilot 2: I don't know, let's get low and see.
Pilot 1: O no, it is the red shining nose of Rudolph.
Pilot 2: Pull up, maybe we hit Santa in is sled.

Wich one died of the Reindeers?

The red nose was probably mistaken for a laser designation spot.

Bogus, animals adapt very well and arnt frightened in that way all that easily. How many animals does this guy loose during a thunderstorm?

Good point, but when they say low level, how low was that..?

Not many thunderstorms suck their victims into a jet intake LOL...

Make that venison burgers all round...

Absolutely! This was extortion.

It ain't the heat it's the humility.

I got to disagree Boomer,

I've seen a cow die from the sound of an explosion when I was young.
They had 3 old concrete silo's mile away from us,they had warned everyone a week in advance about the Explosion so we we're watching from the Barn yard, high fences for short folks, they set-off the charges BOOM,BOOM,BOOM! small shock wave not alot now but then HOLY CRAP!.
the cows went nuts and ran out to the pasture but one of them was dead as a door nail!just fell over.
The company without a problem paided for the cow, while they were getting it ready to butcher, they said it happened once in awhile.
I just remembered having to eat liver for lunch

Turkeys will die if they get scared real easy, but their so damn stupid anyway.

But paying for that deer,I'm suing them for buzzing me while I was drinking my squirt last year over the Northsea.
What a stain

You saw what you saw Goose I wont argue with that but at my old place we got B-1Bs, F-15s, F-4s and F-18s all throwing sonic booms down and all the cows ever did was look up once in a while. Even the low level A-10s didnt bother them. BTW a low level B-1B at something just above the speed of sound is rather an experiance lol.

I think you're both right.

I'd be willing to bet the cows at Goose's place hadn't heard any sort of explosion before.

But at Boomer's how long had the air base been there? And how many generations of cattle had been bred with the noise of the jets going over head.

That's why I agree when Boomer said animals become accoustomed to these noises very quickly. Mainly because there generations are a lot shorter than ours and young animals learn from their parents behaviour.

I'd bet that the very first cows that had never heard a jet before ran around like mad the first time they went over. But give em a few weeks and they would have realised 'no big deal'.

It's like us living near a rail road or flight path.

So the Rudoplh story might be possible. If the red nosed one hadn't heard an F16 before it might have been enough to tip it over the edge.

Hell, most of you guys run pretty high blood pressure when ever an F16 is mentioned ...

I didnt mean to buck Boomer that way, animals do get use to sounds all the time when they hear them.
We never had that kind of sound before.

It is fun trying to milk when you have a small earthquake too,the cows feel it before you and they kick like HELL!

But I think it was just a "Danish PR thing"
