I just picked up my wife's birthday present. A S&W 642 Airweight in .38 Spl. +P. Also gave her a pair of speed loaders and a holster. I also took the liberty to give her a load out of Remington Golden Saber.

Got it on sale at Gander Mtn. for $400. After a 5% military discount, and a $100 gift card from family, the price was low enough to pay it off with an ammo can full of pocket change I've been collecting over the past year, and still had some left over. The next best thing to getting it for free. Their sale is still on until the 19th. I may go back and get a little something on layaway to lock in the price.

Racegal, don't look at it that way. There is something to be said for the real independant women in the world. You make your own way and are beholding to none.

However, if you ever need help or advice, or even a colaorator, feel free to drop me a line.

Well we got up to WY this weekend and headed out to the range today. The temp was supposed to have gotten up into the mid 50's, but it was so danged windy it still seemed pretty cold.

At any rate, we test fired the Airweight, and I had to admit that I was duely impressed. Unlike the .38 bodyguard I'd picked up late last year that hit high and left of the point of aim, this one was dead on at about 5 yards. As this is afterall a JIC, or Just In Case, gun, and intended for personal protection from concealed carry, I didn't really go for long range accuracy.

The Double Action Only, (DAO), trigger has a really stout pull to it, which is just what you want for this type of handgun. If the trigger is too easy, you are likely to fire a shot clearing the holster, or inadvertantly triggering a shot due to just being scared. However, even at 5 yards, I was able to pull a 5 shot group within a 4\" ring and only about an inch to the right. The DAO does take to getting used to.

The recoil from the ultra light wheelgun was also pretty sharp, but not so much as to cause flinching. This is not a handgun you want to spend all day on the range with, but it is, IMHO a perfect blend of reliability, simplicity, power to hit, and comfort for carry. I later tried shooting a series of steel plates at about 25 yards, and while I managed hits on the small 6\" square plates, I did have to aim wide to the left in order to hit them. After holding it in the store, I'd first thought that the trigger guard might smack my knuckle when firing, and even though it is within a 64th of an inch to my knuckle, it never hit my knuckle at all. I fired about 25 rounds through it, and my wife fired another 25, and neither of us had any issues with the recoil.

Overall, a very good revolver to carry for protection. I think it is both dependable and powerful enough that I have no doubts about my wife's safety when carrying this great little wheel gun. I'll try to post some pics later.

Nice piece, your wife is lucky to have ya bro.

Snappy little buggers, but nothing that any woman trained by you can't handle, i'm sure! :)
