Well, after over 2 years of saving and planning, I finally pulled the trigger, both figuratively and literally, on a new Kimber CDP II Pro. The Pro model is in essence a commander model with a 4" barrel but maintains a full 7 to 8 round mag well. It also has a magnesium frame with a 30 lpi checkering on the front strap and mainspring housing. Unfortunately, the Mainspring Housing, as with the Kimber TE II I bought a few years ago, is made of plastic. So, I'll have to drop an additional $100 to get a Stainless Steel one from Wilson Combat with the same checkering. Again, I can not express my love of this checkering enough. It is like having the gun velcroed to the palm of your hand. The mag well is beveled, and it comes with Meprolite Night Sights, and an ambidextrious thumb safety and a generous beavertail grip safety.

Being such a lightweight .45 ACP, I really expected it to kick much more than it actually does. On the first few shots, I noticed I was pulling down and to the right, telling me that I was over compensating for the recoil. Once I backed off, and let the gun do what it was going to do, I was dead on in the center.

I only had limited time on the range, but I quickly polished off 50 rounds with drawing from concealment, engaging with 2 to 3 shots and recovering. It douple taps like a charm and its nearly impossible to miss from 0 to 10 yards, and I was really pushing the speed. I've got my new primary carry gun. :D

VERY nice! I've wanted that exact gun for a few years, couldn't bring myself to spend the $$$ though. Enjoy it thoroughly!

Jack, It took over 2 years of saving for it. I have a separate account that I put the money from my pocket change ammo can, and money from Birthdays and Christmas gifts. The main thing is to keep any money you've set aside for something like this, completely separate of every day finances.

BTW: if you're ever in the AO, we can go to the range and I'll let you take her for a test spin.
