Guys i need a little bit help. Today i got received mine model box. It is from HobbyBoss, scale 1/72. Now i want to make this and i searched for photo's. I want to make, the one on the link. It is also in the shape that i saw the plane 10 years ago. Few questions: Which paintnumbers from Humbroll or Revell do I need? Is there a better picture of the tail? Is only the number (73-1664) on the tail or are they have also white lines on it? I looked also on the website of Diceman, but see only the new pictures in color. I can make that one, but than i have the same questions. And one more. Is there an OWL on his nose and is that on one size (in the model box the put it on both sides). Hope you will help me guys. http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA%20-% ... =&next_id= |

Dutchy, sorry I just noticed this thread. I have a bunch of pictures and info (including paint FS numbers) at home but, not here with me. If you don't find the info you need before I get home (22 Nov) I'll be happy to help you with what you want/need. Hit me up again a couple of days after I get home. |

The N/AW airframe is shown in photos both with and without the \"owl\" on the nose and with and without the white registration markers on the vertical stablizer surfaces. The original DT&E airframe (73-1664) was painted medium gunship gray all over, I think the FS number is 36-1114 (could be wrong on that - the FS number is from memory), and the N/AW was painted the same color and kept the same tail number. The gray weathers pretty badly, so later photos of the A/C as it sits at Edwards may be a bit deceiving if you're building it as it was flown in the late 1970s - early 1980s. The N/AW airframe only had a total of about 300 flight hours on it in the N/AW configuration, so while there would have been some weathering, it's unlikely that it would have been as severe as on a A/C in operational use. Remember that during this time period, FRC was trying to sell the 2 seater to the Air Force and to foreign countries so it would have been kept presentable. As far as whether the owl was on both sides or just one, it's hard to say since photos may have been taken when both owls were painted out, but I don't recall ever seeing an owl on the starboard side of the nose, only on the port side. |

I am almost ready to start with making of the model. Have now another question. Is there a website with paintingnumbers so i can see wich one i have really too use? I can buy here Humbrol or Revell paint. I know that the AF has a colornumber system. Hope somebody can help me. And do you have a suggestion (picture) in wich color syste i have to paint it? You can always help me with more picture information. I promise that when mine model is finished (later this year) i put a picture on this forum. |
