ok looking to get back into a little building. I'd done the Revell kit a while back but was curious as to which current kit on the market is the better? Habu if yer out there yes, it's me from the another faster pointer jet forum. (I won't offend anyone by using the name of the little single engine USAF jet) first post here |

Hi Aceart, and welcome to the board! I don't think anyone will mind if you mention the name of the little single-engined USAF jet...we all love the F-86 Saber, here! <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Here's a website with two Monogram 1/48 A-10 reviews that are very comprehensive: http://modelingmadness.com/reviews/mod/huia10.htm http://modelingmadness.com/reviews/mod/roberto48a10.htm Your only other realistic option in 1/48 is to find the Tamiya kit which was either recently re-released or still has quite a few examples available out there. I've been looking for reviews on it, but haven't found any as of yet. It's as good if not better than the Monogram release, but both have their advantages and disadvantages, and keep in mind it may not be updated and an example of an early-1980's A-10. I wouldn't shy away from it if you can find it, however. Hey folks, I'm new here!!!! Got the link to the site from another modeling site..... Anyways thanks for the review links!!!! Some really great reference pics too.... This site is great!!!! Right now I'm builing the 1/48 Revell kit for a Comunity Build project, & the reference pics are really coming in handy!!!! What? I screwed up and was actually helpful for once? The more Hawgmodelers, the better the site becomes. From whom or which modelling website did you get the reference? What community build project, and what aircraft are you modelling? Hope you post pics as your work progresses, few things more inspiring to modelers than the storm before the calm! Thanks, I'd built the Revell kit some time ago and was pretty happy with it. I remember scratchbuilding the Aim-9 rails. However I just spent a few days with teh 74th at Pope on an assignment (I'm a photographer) and I'm getting the 'bug' to do a more updated grey bird, Litening pod etc. I'll post in the other side of the forum later and am figuring out just how to post pics. Got some nice images of a couple of jets in Phase. Thanks for teh welcome! |

Ah, man, last night I could have SWORN I stumbled across some resin 1/48 Sidewinder rails, and now I can't find the blasted things! If I run across them again, I'll let you know if you still want them. I would kill to be a little bird on your shoulder during your photography sessions... The 74th was great to work with. Even got a chance to gun a hanger at Pope... in the sim, lol. Really gave me an appreciation for the amount of work switchwize there is to work with the Litening pod. Picked up the Tamiya kit, doesn't look too bad but it does need work. I'll have to look around for some after market stuff... now if I can only keep the kit away from the wifies eyes for a while.... Photos to come! |

I go to the Model Car Cafe,(that's where the CBP is) it's mainly a car site, but we came to the realization that we all build all kinds of models!!!! The cbp is Aircraft or any flying object... I primarily build musclecars, but if I want to build an aircraft, I want it to be something serious, with a lot of muscle, & the HOG fits that to a tee!!!<img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle> I also go the Scale Auto Magazine site, (not as much, it's becoming too PC for me), Fine Scale Modeler, & Scale Hobby... I've got some mock-up pics that I'll post, if you guys promise not to laugh, hey I'm a car guy!!! LOL <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/k357/hogtopfront.jpg" border=0> <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/k357/hogreartop.jpg" border=0> <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/k357/hogteethmockup.jpg" border=0> It still needs a lot of work... You can link them direct from photobucket. You did the right thing, but it's case sensitive. I just went in and made the [IMG]'s into [img]'s. ok, been looking at the Tamyia kit and I have a question... any suggestions as to what to make a GPS dome out of? I'd like to update the jet so as to be as current as possible... and that seat? it looks an awful lot like an ESCAP seat... I suppose it's nothing that a little resin set can't fix? For the GPS dome, I'd make it out of sheet styrene if you can find a sizeable punch set or plastic tubing to make the outer ring, then use a piece of plastic rod for the dome center, and file/sand to shape. There may be a resin detail set, now, for that update. You may even find somebody at one of the modeling websites who has one in their spares box from the current Monogram kit, too. Lots of resin seats and cockpits out there for 1/48. I'll post some links as I run across them. Welcome to the board, Mike! I've also read sources that the engine inlets are gloss aircraft gray, but I'd get that confirmed by someone who works on it, first. Why is it the biggest fools of most April Fools' jokes are the implementers? |
