Heard some news the other day about ideas being thrown about concerning the installation of the Avenger into the AC130!(MAMA!!!)

It may replace the 40mm or maybe the 2 20mm's.

This could all be a bunch of crap too.

Anyone heard anything about this?

It may also get Hellfires and a LASER, but they are a few years away. AF may move on to the AC-17 before the LASER is ready.

AC-X will supposedly skip the Avenger and go right into lasers, but who really knows?

wouldnt the avenger have to powerful a recoil to practically fire sideways in a plane, while maintaining accuracy?

Just a question?

What's the recoil like from the 105 that's already in a AC-130? I know there's some sort of fancy recoil system, but it doesn't soak up all the recoil, does it?

You guys may have seen this already, but for those of you who haven't this is pretty cool video of an AC-130 getting some confirmed kills in Afghanistan.

I am sure there is a stabilization system in place. I would imagine that it would work by kicking the ailerons to induce roll in the opposite direction of the recoil.

It seems to me that I read or heard that, when firing the Gatlin gun the amount of rounds leaving the AC is so high and fast that the plane actually becomes lighter and the pilot has to make sure to account for it as far as altitude is concerned. This sounds wild to me, but so does firing a 105 mm howitzer out the side of a "trash hauler". Anybody ever heard of this besides me?

I think the 'U' model has a system that corrects the course automaticly to compensate for the recoil and shiting load.

Not certain, just something that i think i remember rading the other day when i did the 'Spooky' v 'Spectre' research.
