During OAF three A-10A's were based at ***edited***for CSAR duty with unit markings and tail codes overpainted. Does anyone know the reason for this as the Hawgs operating from ***edited*** retained normal schemes.

I can answer that. The three units that were deployed to ***edited*** were Barnes, Battle Creek and Boise. From that rainbow unit we sent three aircraft to the first ever ANG operated FOL which was a CSAR mission to ***edited***. The remainder of the jets flew strike missions all the way into the box from ***edited***. The reason the tailcodes were all covered was for commonality between the units. It was decided keep us all as a team and remove the individual tail flashes. It was also done for security reasons. By the way Budapest is a must see city.
Recently in a magazine called www.HistoricAviation.com I saw a great painting of a Battle Creek jet over the Hog Pen during the Allied Force Campaign. This was the day when all aircraft over Kosovo were on the ground except for A10's. The 'Killer Bees' flew over 440 missions and ate a whole s***load of pizza.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

I will take a 'no scramble day' on a CSAR mission every day. Nothing would make me happier. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on that line about the guard. I see from your bio that you must have all kinds of experience.

I edited the deployed locations above for two reasons...one...my opinion anyways, they shouldn't be discussed here...and two...because of dices comments...if you have issues with this, post away, but my decision stands...

Good call prkiii thangs have been getting a little lax here lately with tail numbers, loaction, unit info being thrown around a bit to much IMHO.

All right....I was there too as a B.C. Crew Chief and we did work our butts off keeping the jets flying! The reason we had so much time to eat pizza is that the jets would fly 6-9 hour missions with several tanker hits! What else were we supposed to do with all that waiting time? There was nothing else to work on because all of our jets were in top condition!! :)
If you weren't there you can't slam us for what you don't know anything about!
P.S. I'm fairly certain that the locations of the deployed aircraft etc. are no longer classified. I've seen several magazine articles that spill the beans but I understand you wanting to keep up with OPSEC/COMSEC
Cheers!
