TG, back in the 1995-1996 timeframe the chow-hall was located in a building down from the main compound and was called "The Hogrock Cafe". I understand it moved to the main "camp" now but I'm looking for something which hung in the old cafe back then.

Each unit had paintings which hung in the windows of the old chow-hall depecting their unit. I did the one for the 70th FS back in 96 and have no pictures of it..are these paintings still around and if so, could you snap a picture of them for me? Thanks in advance for checking!

I'll look around and see what I can find. Is it a unit patch depiction or something else, and can you give me a basic description?

Thanks.

Oops, I wrote that last reply before the 75th pic downloaded. I'll look for something akin to that.

The one I'm looking for had a large 70th FS patch in the center with smaller command patches (three I think) across the top and it was painted in "stone" paint which made the hold thing look "carved in stone".

Thanks TG!

The original 75th board that depicts them being first into Jaber is hanging in the headquarters building. It will updated to show they were also the last one's out...8.5 years later. It will probably be brought back to Pope.

Thanks for the heads up. I prolly would've walked right past the HQ building without looking for it there. If I see others like it, I'll get pics of those, too.

I remember a lot of units had signs hanging in the Rec center back in '98 and '99.

The Sand Trap's still full of squadron emblems, but mostly table tops and patch boards. None of the headstone type ones that Dice depicted. I'm off to the HQ building this morning too look around some more. It is so frickin' boring over here now.

Well you could always sit down and discribe your first (or a )combat mission over Iraq, nothing clasifided just what it was like, I'm sure that would be something everyone would enjoy reading. Send it to me and I'll add pictures (from the ones I have or you can send a couple) and I'll post it on my site so everyone, from all the forums you visit, could enjoy it...just a thought.

Also might be a good time to write-down a jornal of your experances from deployment to return...you never know someone might want stuff like that for a book someday!

BTW- have you recived any boxes from me yet?

That plus a whole list of other parts for that jet. The other one (Pope jet) may come home in a C-5/C-17! <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

We still gonna be seeing Jaber anymore in the future, or things winding down. When I was there, the so-called "Jaber 2005" improvement plan was in effect.

The wonderful days at Jaber are a thing of the past! If you are not there now, you may have seen it for the last time.

Coach

Wonder where AEFs are going to send us now. Looking at the news, seems the administration doesn't want a long-term military, or at least large, military presence in Iraq.

BTW, heard rumor from my bretheren that the Hog phaseout will slowly start from 2004 til 2010. Any truth to that? I'm up for reassignment in the next cycle, so I'm weighing what king of pickings there will be.

We'll probably still be coming by Iraq for a bit longer, not for much though. Of course, we're still the only USAF aircraft basing in Bagram and that's not really set to change soon. I would like to think that just because there is an AEF doesn't mean we have to send anyone anywhere. Can you imagine how much money we could NOT spend by not having to send a squadron somewhere for three months. We could pay for the entire fleet to be re-engined with one skipped cycle (not that it would ever happen).

But there's always somewhere to go, and we'll keep going...

Type 7, the worst thing you can do is try to game the system...the Hog isn't going anywhere soon. If you want to keep flying A-10s, then make sure your PW reflects that. We're always in need of motivated young Attack Pilots! In fact, I tried to get Air2Mud to come over from the dark side, but I'm afraid his mind has already been poisoned...

I'm not so sure about that, Coach! There is always an exception to the rule...I think Bambi is it!

Regarding your earlier statement about coming over to the light side...well, all you have to do is convince my wife! LOL

Bambi, how's the deer hunting out that way? At least there's no poison ivy, huh? I'm sorry I wasn't out there with you guys, too. Last time I talked to Knuckles, you guys were STILL farther ahead in your MQT than I was! All the guys back here said I would be hating life out there, being the MPC biotch, but if I was working with you and Knuckles, it'd be bearable. They're going to check me out day-only initially, then later in May finish the night flying. I should finish up this week, weather permitting. If that happens, I might be flying out to Wright-Pat for an airshow over the weekend of the 10th and 11th. Unfortunately, it's not going to be the big one they are holding at Dayton this July, but what the hey. It'll be fun...that is, of course, if I get done. Which, with the way things have been going, is unlikely. What are they going to do with you guys? Any chance of doing some flying out there and trying to get closer to finishing? Good to see you on this site, about time you got off your duff and did something! Just kidding, as always.

Don't know if TinyGiant ever got the message through to you and Knuckles, but I said to say hello. I also said it would be great if we could arrange to fly in to the same airshow sometime this summer, and then I can hook you and Knuckles up with the bottles I bought for you guys going to war without me...

Hope you guys are home soon, let me know what's up!

ATTACK!

Yeh there's not any deer but an ass load of camels. I set my sights on them, but you can't have a tree stand when you don't have any trees.
As for the suck factor, it's getting worse as the days go on. There is less and less to do, it's painful. I hope to be home soon and get finished with the MQT and start the airshow circuit. I have rehacked my landings which was nice I'll update you on that at a different time and place maybe over a frosty beverage, mmmmm beer!! I came across some cool pics I'll try and get them posted if I can figure this thing out.
Cheers!

Dice,

Here's the final update. I searched that whole base. Turns out that by the time I went looking for stuff, the base was stripped clean since they were in the process of closing it. Plaques and frames were even missing from the walls of the HQ building! Anyway, sorry I wasn't able to find any of your pics, but there wasn't a one to be found anywhere on that base.
