Not to derail this thread, but your unnecessary and unprofessional blow-up towards my post needs to be addressed.
Pretty short fuze for someone that's supposed to be an unbiased mod. Great example you set with the "don't like it around here, just leave"....the "my way or the highway, it's my sandbox" attitude. Real professional. But that's besides the point. You may not care what I think, and that's OK, but I've been around a while, and frankly, I think it's sad when people can't use a little good judgement on what constitutes OPSEC and what doesn't. While I admit to being a little facetious in my post, I was trying to humorously illustrate some of the more asinine things that people label under OPSEC. I see it at work as well as here. And it's the same type of people each time that take the normal concept of OPSEC, and turn it into paranoia. If you want to protect the info the way you seem to want to, then I see this website being restricted to topics like:
"I've got this new A-10 game, and it's real cool"
"Anyone know when the next airshow with A-10s is going to be?"
"Does anyone have the new 1/32 A-10 model?"
Point being, if you don't use some judgement in what's OPSEC and what isn't, and you only want to use a blanket "we won't talk about that here", then there's really NOTHING that's game to talk about here on this site regards A-10s, the Air Force, the military, the US government, etc, etc. Because by your definition then, EVERYTHING would have some sort of intrinsic value that someone could "piece together" to figure out whatever they wanted to. See what I'm trying to say? By your definition, next to NONE of the topics in the "Hog Chat" should be allowed. Discussing a few jets that got some sort of structural mod isn't the same as discussing dates/times of a deployment, by a long shot. That's where judgement comes in.
And I hope you're not serious about my joking comment about gate times being OPSEC, I mean, they're posted on a sign outside the gate for the public to see, as well as any changes posted in the baase newspaper, which nearly everyone has access to and is hardly a classified source.
If you're serious about that example, then THIS is the kind of idiotic, no-brain robotic paranoia that created the TSA and the Patriot Act.
Like I said, I've been flying these things for quite a while and am more than aware what OPSEC is and isn't.
