NOW the thread is off topic ROFLMAO. It started out and pretty well stayed about A-10s hunting ships( I think I was the first to divert it with the "golden BB post).

hogman, the reward for this is IF and when these folks come around and see the light. I admire Ivans persistance(he's 10 feet tall dont cha know (thought I'd throw that in for all the cold warriors here)) but not his resistance to the obviouse. He'll get it or he wont, he'll do more research on his own and learn the diff between video games and reality or he'll keep spinning around in circles. I've been wrestleing with one guy for 2 years to get him to stop saying things like "the A-10s canopy is bulletproof" and now he thinks the F-16 is more survivable than F-35 because it's bigger (even though I showed him the F-35 is bigger in every way LOLOL ). We must suffer the fools cause sometimes they go and "gem up" on ya and become good allies(cannon fodder) in other arguments <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hey hogman... that was a bit of a cheap shot... I was just asking questions... and by the way.... i HATE consoles... cause there much more un realistic than computer games....
And smitty.... i don't know whether that remark was directed into offending me... but if it was the same applies... and don't even joke about your navy being invinceble... its just not true.(not that i can talk our navy is SHIT and airforce for that matter, at least our army is up to scratch.)

Look guys... a lot of the stuff i said hasn't even been thought of in video games or by video programers... so its not just crap... when did i realate anything to video games anyway?... exept my flight experiance of course. But you can tell games that are realistic and the ones that are not... and i chose the most realistic ones i can.... "USAF"'s idea of an a-10 was ludicrust... you got to top speed in about 10secs... thats why i uninstalled it. It was crap... at least "a-10 cuba" has a fairly acurate flight model.. even if you use harms and hellfires... in fact ... if you look at my first post (if you can find it... LOL), you will notice that its asking if there is a realistic flight sim of the a-10.

I still think that my idea should be atleast tried... in mock combat atleast... cause its never been tried has it?

Hey all that stuff i said about radar is true and the historical facts. How would you know any better hogman? Your probably a plumber or something...

hey hogman... you want to challenge me to computers crashing because they don't know the answer? You only have to read a mag cald "real robots' and thats designed for 8 year olds... so you should be able to underestand it.

and this guy boomer is talking about... his ideas can be put down by simple fact.... the f35 is heaps bigger than the f-16, anyone knows that, but if my idea has never been tried than theres no fact saying that it can't be done... ok sorry, i'm argueing again but...

hey let off the kid a bit... he's think it through all in the right way. he's just not Listening. hey kid, LISTEN. you need to learn to apply what they're telling you. they've went over the 3 points of air deffence: radar, SAM's and AAA/phalanx systems. the A-10 moves MUCH to fast to fool the radar and can't fly in bettween the wave to trick the radar. the SAM's carried by ships are very leathel and there are multiple ships designed just for carring missiles. then there are the phalanx and AAA that could stop anything that goes through. Now let's look at ways of sinking a ship by air: standoff missiles, HARM, and bombs. now lets put multiple AC into the picture. F-18 or F-16 can carry in some HARMs and strick the radar leaveing the ship blind to far away AC. the A-10 close in along with F-18 or 14 or 16. and they carry in standoff missiles to pound the ship some more. this is going to shake up the crew and possible distroy the AAA/phalanx, if not the A-10 pilots can be familar with the ship and hitm the right spots on the ship with maverics and then remove the close in defenses. finialy the A-10's can come in and distroy the ship with bombs and guns. But the ships have other small arms fire that can hamper the Attack, mounted M-60 and BIG 50 cal. are common on the bow and stern of a ship and can provide and obstical too. There is only one key point I left out that makes this type of attack impossible: Ships never travel alone any more, you would need a TON of aircraft to work effectively this way. however, you can send wave after wave of AC with standoff weapons to harass the ships safely from a far. that method is simpler easier and safier and why it is done and not done with A-10. now you see how to encomprence newly learned information into your argument! but just so long as you've learned here kid it has made it all worth wild!

Thank you for your answer, thank you for elaborating too.
But your really just pointing out things that they've already told me... i understand that thats what your telling me and i apreciate it. My answer to that was that even using your stand off missiles and harms your going to be in range of the ships defence anyway... and when you release you radar guided missiles the ship is going to know exactly where you are. So its not safe anyway. So doesn't it make sence to try and evade the ship rather than attacking it froma range in which it has the upper hand?

And i already said... if you pass from stern to bow along a ship... the phalanx is in no possition to shoot you down...unless you want to get rid of your own bridge.

IDEALLY ships never travel alone but it isn't always possible to have a fleet of 3 or more ships. (three being the number in which a really protective formation can be maintained.) At the moment a country would have to pretty stupid to declare war on america. even russia. But what if japan is invaded by russia. Ok firstly you now have a problem because you (america) have an interest in world peace. So you go to japans aid. Japan has a problem... Russia has blockaded japan and they are quikly running out of supplies. America deployes her navy to try and stop the russians... After a month or so you have lost a selection of ships and so have the russians... unfortuanetly north korea has joined the russians and you (through under-estimation) do not have a enough ships in the area. You now have to try and get supplies to japan from nieghboring countries. So you set up convoys of cargo ships protected by only a handfull of ships. The result... 10 cargo ships protected by only 1 missile destroyer. Russain submarines are in the area and you have to stay on full alert from a underwater threat. Mean while russia, to continue an effective blockade, has to space her ships out over greater distances. This situation is when a ship may be alone and in a vounrable possition.

Sound far fetched? I could happen and it could be a lot worse... There are a lot of countries out there who would like to see you destroyed and would jump at any chance they had.

Sorry im starting up again... but heres some food for thought.

sorry Ivan your missing your own point in that one. We would end the blocade with most likely politics, but failing that, the American subs would move in and most likely make short work of it, cause they are SO hard to find. And I havent considered your age in any of this, "nuggets" come in EVERY age. As far as standoff weapons and missle range are concerned, you would launch your missles and then turn and run away and hope that at that range your countermeasures would let you get out of the ships missle range. If I wanted to kill ships but subs were to far away and it had to be done quickly,I would hit ships with cruise missles to blind and disable them, you would already have a mission kill at that point, then follow that up with anti-ship missles like Harpoon or Moskit to punch holes in it to sink it(although it would be better all around to NOT sink it, then use it for tech study or swapping purposes).

But i do agree... the best thing to fight a sub is a sub.

So basically you guys are saying that the reason my idea isn't being used is because there are easier ways to do it... did i get that right?

if that is right than you have done a good job in trying to convince me. But I still don't think theres enough evidence to suggest that an attack using a-10's would be impossible.

Back to the slow speed arguemant.... One thing i have noticed about the hogs low speed ability is that it is usefull durring dogfighting... (this is in a flight sim atleast LOL) also... the possition of the engines.. it allows a little manouvrability even whaen the aircraft is in negative airspeed... alowing you to pull some pretty cool manuavers... You can hit the brakes... and the enemy planes flys past you... fire a sidewinder... and more extravegantly... if you have the speed... pull vertical and hit the brakes... wait intil the enemy plane flys past... fire a sidewinder...engage full power... push stick foreward.. open flaps... when plane reaches 200knots close flaps and engage brake... pull up. LOTS OF FUN...

I love it... i wonder if its possible in real life? The stunt planes can do it... but most jets couldn't because the wouldn't be able to move when they were going backwards.

Computers are OK but all over the World there are testing grounds and laboratories that are now craters (probably still smouldering or in some cases glowing) because a computer simulation said it was perfectly safe to do X, Y or Z…
