Hey guys, I sure miss A-10 action; ever since our unit (104th) converted to the dreaded F-15 it's become increasing clear that for those of us who crewed A-10s for all of our career, we never really appreciated how good we had it..Also, I never heard of an A-10 having the nose snap off during ACM!
Anyway, I noticed a new A-10 R/C model today and thought you guys might be interested...Make sure you check out the videos for some in-flight action...

MiboUSA (site currently under construction as they are remodeling it) & http://www.jetadic.com/ have an A-10 kit with turbines and I have videos in my personal collection of the kit being taxied and flown. I'm at work so I can't do a direct link, but did a quick Google Video search with \"Mibo RC A-10\" and two videos were found. I can't watch them from this computer as they are hosted on YouTube. After I get home tonight I'll check to see if those videos are of the same kit I have videos of.

The JetAdic link has a LOT of pictures of the kit done up a bunch of ways (paint wise). Some very nice ones. Scroll down to the bottom and click on the \"More Pics\" tab and you'll see what I mean. A few videos there as well.

The kit is roughly 2.6 meters long and f'ing rocks. Not sure if I can afford the second mortgage to get the kit just yet. Places like http://www.jethangar.com/ & http://www.bvmjets.com/ have other kits that are VERY good for those interested

Sometimes this forum sucks..and this may be one of those times. Here I sit, semi-retired with too much time on my hands and thanks to a \"C\" model ver/val, a pretty good chunk of change that doesn't have a home. Now, I suppose I could be the responsible adult and put it in the bank for my kids to squander upon my demise but where's the fun in that? That thing looks like an ass load of fun and just the deal to pass some time on these cold days. If I thought I could fly it without creating a class A mishap I'd be on that web site in a heartbeat.

I remember a bunch of us saying the same thing nearly 20 years ago after they decided not to bring the \"Lawn Darts\" in to replace the A-10.

Oh, that would be so fun to fly around. I checked out the Red Vipers Hornet and that is pretty sweet.

Those toys don't work well with young kids in the house, so it's just a dream for this guy... for now

Well needless to say that was the she needed so I never got one because I would be afraid to \"Crash and Burn\".

At Yokota AB at the 1984 open house They had RC Demo's and one of them Crashed into the tail of a C-130 when it lost its signal. $$$$$$$ about $23,000 worth of damage to the Rudder and tail. It was a \"ZERO\" model on top of that.

The \"Kamikaze\" spirit still exists it would seem We used to train newb GCA controllers in Germany with a C-172 with a 10' wingspan. Wrapped foil aournd the landing gear, filled the cockpit with foil and taped foil onto the leading edges (it already had an aluminum prop). If the flying club wasn't playing around, I or one of my other controllers would be in the tower, the GCA chief would be on the trainee downsatirs and because of the layout at EDOT, the operator would be on the catwalk outside the tower flying the plane. The volume would be cranked on the tower speakers and we would run through as many approaches as we could or until the trainee learned what he/she needed. No accidents to report during these sessions and they were helpful without \"official\" sanctioning from the head shed

Because of that crash, the RC Club on base had to take out an insurance policy and the members all had to pay into it. They would Host \"Local Events \" with the \"JN's\" on base and they too had to put up money into an insurance fund.

After that \"No Insurance, You were Banned from the RC club\" and you had to be a member to use their strip.

Yes Chief we all and all the Jokes that went around about it.

Same kind of deal in ANY of the RC clubs in Germany. Europe for that matter. $1M policy is generally standard though more is required if the club flies on a military facility.

Come on...using an RC plane wrapped in foil to train GCA controllers? I'm not buying that for a minute.

It's what we did with what we had available. If the flying club was wiling to assist we would use live traffic, but otherwise it was the RC C-172. Granted they weren't great approaches but it did show up with a faint primary. Had to crank the gains to maintain radar contact all the way through the approach, but that was training too.
