After a decade of flying the old bird, I'm off to a non-flying job in February. I volunteered to fill an ALO slot. It should be an interesting experience. Anyone live near Louisville?

Good Luck TG! You'll be a lot closer to Michigan if you want to stop in and catch up!! I'll be headed to Selfridge soon but alot of guys are staying in B.C.
There's always the Thunder over Louisville airshow next year! Hopefully we'll be able to participate again?

Hawg166,

I have no heartburn leaving the A-10. I never expected to fly it for as long as I did. It's time to do something different. Maybe I'll go back to the Hog after an assignment or two. I'll have the privilege to work with some highly motivated enlisted personnel in a field near and dear to every hog driver's heart, the JTAC.

Hogfixer,

The wifey wants to get back up Michigan way to visit Baja. He's still not doing a whole lot, but it's been over a year since we've been able to see him.

We had the opportunity a few years back to spend a good bit of time at Fort Campbell, Fort Benning, and Hunter AAF in Savannah. We were doing some real cool stuff. I'd like to say more but .............. I am a Crew Chief but the stuff we were exposed to and the stuff we as maintaners on the Hog were going to start doing when BRAC was announced, was other worldly for sure. The Army guys in the ***********************and the rest were incredibly special guys and made us as maintaners feel more respectable than anyone in the Air Force ever has. So as far as being a dream job for you as a pilot type; I can almost understand where you are coming from. I wish that we were back there under the NVG's with those guys. I am sure you will have an awesome time. Oh yeah by the way, I have heartburn about being an Eagle guy now. Can you tell ?

As long as you have no heartburn with it I wish you the best of luck in your new assignment.

The TACP field needs strong, motivated officer leadership...be that role model for them.

TinyGiant,

Hey, congrats on the new job.
I'm just curious why you decided to get out of the driver seat? It just floors me that anything could be better than flying?

It's often not our choice. It is part of the officer development process to do a non-flying job.

He'll be back.

Like Coach said, it wasn't my choice to leave the A-10, but it was my choice to select an assignment that keeps me in the fight and lets me do something that I think will be fun, challenging and rewarding. I hope to be back in the Hog someday, though nothing's guaranteed. Four straight assignments and 10 years in the hog is not all that common nowadays, so I'm pretty happy with the last decade. Time to do something a little different.

Talk about reviving old posts. 3.5 years and two assignments later, they're sending me back to the Hawg. Heading down to Moody in about 30 days. Should be interesting, I've never been stationed there (or Pope).

WOW Holey shit you back on the A-10!! Congrads TG I can't even began to understand what it would be like to go from the A-10A, to the F-117, and then back to the A-10C. You need to write a book on this one. I know I'm being selfish but I'm happy to have another contact in the A-10 world. :D

Dice,

I never roached it up, and I was able to fly the C-Model for 2 years before I left the community. I was an ALO for 2.5 years. I'm currently an ACSC student. I know a few Hog Drivers that went to the F-117, but none of them ever made it back to the Hog.

Moody and Valdosta isn't bad, some will tell you otherwise but as I'm sure you know every assignment is what you make it. If you are part of the 75th I may end up launching you out, only a reservist now but I volunteer to help them out often.

Although I don't live in the Valdosta area anymore, I'm down there at least once a month for Reserves. If you have any questions let me know. If I don't know I'll get with friends who live there and find out.

We won't hold it against you that you have no Pope time...just means you have to work harder to earn The Teeth. It's all about The Teeth!

Welcome back!

Coach,

I had Pope-time, sort of. When I was TFAP at Battle Creek ANGB, I was associated with the 75th (back when Donk was the boss). I visited Pope once every quarter for three years to fly with the Tiger Sharks and ensure Active Duty could keep their claws in me. Never actually stationed there, however.

I do seem to remember a quote on the board by the 75th Ops Desk sometime early this century:

\"My techniques are your procedures.\" -- Coach

Sounds like a reply to some young, brash, smart-ass Lt (I know I was NEVER one of those).
