Any of you verify that this vid clip is an A-10 HUD view? Just looking for confirmation before I share it. Thanks. http://shock.military.com/Shock/videos. ... 290&page=1 |

No way thats from an A-10 HUD. Looks more like something recorded from a Preditor, or a laser designator pod. Maybe an Apache or a sensor from an AC-130, but unless A-10s can fly sidways and bacwards, that ain't from a Warthog. |

Thanks, IP. That's what I thought, too, especially when the view rotated to stay on target. Plus, wasn't the slant range just a bit on the steep side? I'm not a stick actuator, just sayin', ya know? |

Happy to help. There's a lot of these vids out there claiming to be one thing or another. Saw one that was supposed to have been from an AC-130, but when a bomb hit the target I just knew that was bogus. ![]() Good that you thought to ask though. |

That does look like 30mm hits I think you have two different aircraft Preditor, with a A-10 or a AC-130 gun.Its not a AH-64 Apache 100% sure of that, its CHAIN GUN fires SLOW Way too may rounds hitting target and the HUD is not from a AH-64 |

it looks to me like the infared sensor under the AC-130U's nose.....definately not an A-10, from the video it looks like the camera is in a continuous left pylon turn which is typical of an AC-130..... |

Depends on your technique. Sometimes dispersion is desired. Coach |

its a tactic when dealing with light skinned vehicles or dismounted troops. Most effective on a mobile or convoy targets that are in a constant advance. By dispersing the rounds across the convoy it causes one of two types of kills. a Mobility kill (stops the route of march) or causes collateral damage to the equipment and or personal so that it cannot advance to negate the convoys employment of troops or hardware. A complete kill deals with total destruction of a target. This is not ideal on a mobile target unless you can bottleneck the targets. In open terrain it is best to pepper or disperse across the target to limit the targets combat ability and to make best use of ordnance to bare. In desert warfare where terrain masking is not possible standoff is mandatory for aircrew safety. When standoff takes place the Targeting pod is useful for the flight of attacking aircraft/flight to maintain a situational awareness and to continue the controlling and spotting of targets and follow up weapons employment. The threat in this situation is not each individual target, but the convoy as an attacking element. The element is a threat. As Coach said. Their are situations where dispersion maximizes the atacks effectiveness. Hence it why is is called \"Strafing\" a tactical weapons employment method as old as crew served weapons or area weapons used by infantry and ww1 Fighter aircraft. Other weapon systems are designed in such a manner, Grenades, Rockets, flachette to saturate the target area. |

I can understand that dispersion is a bonus, and would be desireable in certian situations. I just didn't realize you guys could make the GAU-8/A have that much dispersion. I have seen A-10's on the range here and the rags are not that big, at least not as big as the area covered in that video. In fact I have had to bore scope and even change barrels before scheduled time change due to too much or erractic dispersion. |

Unintended dispersion is bad. Coach |
