Here's a video of the end of one A-10. I believe this happen here at Hill AFB a few years ago to one of the ABDR jets. Kinda' sad to watch but as we all know it happens. This jet (if I remember right) was one shipped here from McClellan and had been a trainer/ABDR jet for over 25 years. She was just scrap metal by the time they did this but, most of us here would agree she could have been sent to a museum instead of ending her life like this.

Not cool. That was painful to watch, I kept wincing every time I heard a crunch.

Yet to this day there still isn't a static display Hog at the Cold War Museum at the former RAF Bentwaters!

The jet could have easily been disassembled, shipped and repainted to a 81 TFW scheme instead of wasted like this.

What a shame.

Cheers! M2

You beat me to it M2.
Worse still, there is a Hog lingering inside the gate at the former RAF Alconbury, last I heard it had the most hideous paint scheme ever seen on an aircraft.

The jet had been in use as a ground trainer after a prang off the end of the runway at Alconbury.
At least the Hog would get to be seen by more people if it returned home to Bentwaters with the BCWM.

Edited to include criminal paintjob.......

At the very least they could have set her out on a range and given her a Warriors Death.

Sad to see a war bird go like that, like everyone else has said, I think it should have been retired as a static display at Bentwaters. I noticed an F15 was parked up next in line for the same horrible fate.

M2 and BaconBits

We at the Bentwaters Cold war museum would love to have a static Hog back at Bentwaters. The USAF wouldn't have to repaint it. We could do that easily. If we were offered the one at AR we'd even go get it and disassemble it. We've done it with other aircraft.

And if anyone with some leverage is viewing this we'd also like one of the ex 81st TFW's F4's that are at Torrejon....

Trust me, if it were up to me, you'd have a Hog by now!

Am I the only one that can't find the Video?

Any truth to the rumor of BAFB going away?

I flew in the 47 TFS for 13 years.

The rumor about Barksdale is the first round...the fight has not yet begun! The Guard has a seat on the JCS now...
